When I was in college, Physics was not a popular major. Neither was mathematics. However, Engineering was a popular major. Engineering opens up many doors because there is always a demand for good engineers, especially in the energy (hydrocarbons) industries which are booming right now. And renewable energy can also use engineers. With Engineering, you can specialise in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil... there is a lot of choices.

With physics, it is a very respectable major, but it will be highly specialised. And job opportunities hence, will be less, since it is more specialised. Physics is more of a niche major in my opinion. I think it's good and respectable, but not as popular as Engineering, or Biology.

From my experience, the most popular majors in colleges (liberal arts colleges) were Communications, Biology/Pre-Med, Engineering, Psychology (often used as a minor), Economics, and General Business. Also Computer Science was very popular.

In my opinion, the most prized majors 10 years from now would be Chemistry because the demographic is aging and we will require more medicines & pharmaceuticals... and Engineering since we will be needing more efficient energy sources and technological advancements in clean energy. Perhaps, since we are still in a technological age with Apple being the market leader, computer sciences will be very high in demand.

Very few that are major at it.and its extremely hard too.. from the smart people i know..biochem or neuroscience are more popular. With physics degree it is really hard to survive out there cos its hard to get into this work field. While a master/phd in physic might get u somewhere but a simple physic ba degree won't get you anywhere
