I'm trying to figure out who this was. The closest Arkansas season I can find is 1977 under Lou. They went 11-1 with wins over #15, #11, and #2, with a 4-pt loss to then-#2 texas.

Reb has a good point about the conference record. I'll check some of ND's history.

ND did go 11-1 in 1977 and won the NC, but the results and rankings are off.

They also went 11-1 in '93, but Arkansas sucked that year

    Please enlighten me.

    EDIT

    I have your answer

In 1983 Miami (Fl) went 11-1. (they were independent at this time) In the first game of the season they lost by 25 at then-unranked Florida

they later beat #13 Notre Dame, #12 West Virginia, and #1 Nebraska (in the orange bowl)

    They were declared National Champs

That same year, Auburn also went 11-1. (6-0 in conference) They lost by 13 to #3 texas. they later beat #5 florida, #7maryland, #4 georgia, #19 bama, and #8 michigan in the bowl game.they finished the season ranked #3 behind Miami and Nebraska

That year, Nebraska was ranked #1 every week of the season. Their only wins vs ranked opponents were #4 Penn State in week 1 and #20 Ok State. Their offense was amazing though; they averaged 50 PPG game scored 60+ 5 times

Something else I noticed about all these teams. They all played tough non-conference teams early in the season. Almost noone does that anymore. (this year was the only time Michigan has done it recently; we are just as guilty as anyone) Hopefully the new playoff systems that are emerging will fix that.

This was really fun to research thanks for the challenge. Please post more if you have them.

Source(s): several wiki sites, especially this one http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/College_football_nati... It's almost 1 AM and I have a full day of classes, but instead of going to bed I am watching college football classic highlights on youtube while discussing college football and reading about college FB on wiki. I freaking love the internet.

    I'd give team 1 a slight edge.

I don't doubt for a second this was asked to prove a point. The specific numbers and how only one team had a conference record make me think this was an actual case.

    Team 1, no question.

I have a feeling this question was asked to prove a point
