why should gay people have rights?

They should have rights because they're people, like everybody else. They just happen to have different predilections in regards to sexual attraction, which causes some people to get their panties in a bunch. For more exact reasons why: the 14th Amendment, especially this passage, "No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."

Also as per the Declaration of Independence: "We hold these truths to be self–evident,

That all men are created equal,

That they are endowed by their Creator

with certain unalienable Rights,

That among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–

That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men,

Deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed."

That's two major governmental documents which say gay people deserve equal rights.

Why should women have rights? why should blacks have rights? Because we are all human beings. When you subtract religion, conservative religious politics, and opinionated ignorance from the world, what is left? Human beings. There were gay cavemen, gay dogs and cats. Homosexuality is found in over 400 species of animals on the planet. But hate is found in only one... humanity. Just because someone is a different color, sexual orientation, or religion than you doesnt make them any less human. In fact gay hate didnt arise until religion was born. And for those who believe that homosexuality is unnatural, why would homosexuality exist in nature if it was unnatural? Gay rights are equal rights.

Gays should be treated fairly as others but no one should be supported in living a life against nature and God. There are boundaries to the pursuit of happiness. It might make one very happy to kill someone. Would he/ she be denied equal rights if prevented from doing such ?

The true meaning of what Thomas Jefferson meant by equal rights has been distorted.

Gay people should have all the rights that straights have but they should not be given the rights to

1. Spread Lies such as people are born gay

2. To disregard/disrespect religion

3. To go against science

4. To discriminate against people who wants to change

5. To raise motherless children

Take "gay" out of your already stated question. Why should people have rights? Because we're all human. Everyone deserves the chance to be treated equally under the law and in the eyes of others, regardless of gender, physical condition, race, intelligence, mental capabilities, sexual orientation, religion, etc etc etc.

I find it strange that some people think I should not have the same rights as them, but don't see an issue with me paying tax.

If they are going to rate me as second class, less a valuable citizen, alter my tax rate.

Substitute "human beings" for gay people and your question answers itself.

They have rights, what the "community" is striving for is forced acceptance of their behavior through the government and the majority will not tolerate this.

The more this is pushed the more violent the backlash will become. Let gay marriage be a state's issue, if the Defense Of Marriage Act is overturned (unlikely) there will be blood.
