I stretched to a 0G yesterday and?
Hey everyone, I hope you're all having a wonderful Saturday! Well, I stretched my ear to a 0G from a 2G yesterday. I waited 3 months to stretch. I pushed the 0G in and felt pain, but it was bareable. (It's normal for this stretch because its a 2MM jump.) Well since I couldn't take the taper out I left it in over night and this morning I woke up and changed my taper to a plug, because you're not suppose to wear taper due to the uneven weight. It bleed, not a lot but a lot for an ear to bleed. If that makes sense. My question is, why did it bleed? And I heard its common to get a blow out when stretching from a 2G-0G. Is this true?
BTW: I couldn't take the taper out because my ear would of shrunk down. And I couldn't follow the plug through with the taper.
Everything I used is stainless steel, even the tapers. I used baby oil to lube the tapers up.

Well it bled probably because a 2mm skip is still quite a large skip. I waited a couple of months to stretch from 2g to 0g as well and it also bled. I realized that the blood meant I may have torn my ear. To play it safe, I downsized back to a 2g to let the tear heal (just so it didn't lead to future blow outs and what not) and decided to stretch with PTFE or Teflon tape. It's much safer, more gradual, less painful, and overall better for your ears. Truthfully, it's what I'd recommend for any skips 2mm or larger.
Now, assuming you take my advice, I've calculated some data on stretching with PTFE and how to go about it to get an accurate outcome:
PTFE is approximately .003 inches thick. This converts to roughly .0762 mm for one layer (or wrap) of PTFE. Now, it's safest to do 2 or 3 wraps per day, so that's .1524-.2286mm per day. Meaning, it'd take roughly 26 wraps to get to 2mm. HOWEVER most people just go ahead and do 13 wraps to get to 1mm and stretch with a taper from there (which is what I did, worked wonderfully).
Procedure:
- Soak your plugs in hydrogen peroxide for a minute to sterilize them before you add layers EVERY TIME. This will prevent potential infections.
- Use Vitamin E oil as a lubricant. Much better for your ears than standard baby oil. You can pick this up at any drug store (Walgreens, CVS, etc.).
- Put a small amount of the Vitamin E oil on a Q-Tip, and rub it on the new wrap of tape until it's transparent. This will ensure that it is lubricated enough to slide in effortlessly.
- If your ears ever hurt after a stretch, you don't have to stretch daily. If they don't hurt, then continue with the daily stretching routine. But do NOT try to force more than 3 wraps per day, no matter how much you think your ears can handle it (this is how blowouts happen).
