Most of it is paranoia.
Prepping is an example.
Having a few days worth of food, water and fuel for heat and light is sane in my country.
Power outages from winter storms and such things are common.
The bunker building, gun piling, end of the worlder is just acting out of fear though.
Their response is totally out of proportion with the possible threats and would not be effective anyhow.
They are slipping into insanity in my opinion.
I guess you can judge the level of fear the govt is pumping into the society by how large the survivalist market is at any time.
