Because there is no evidence to support the existence of one and plenty to indicate that the concept is man-made.
What does the sound of the wind have to do with the sum of 2 + 2? It makes as much sense as your dumbass "question".

Why are you putting words into an atheist's mouth? I'm an atheist, and _I_ know the latest hypotheses of where the universe came from. Have you heard of the Big Bounce Theory? I like it better than the Big Bang, because it hints at what came before and what will come after. This universe has a set age and a proposed life span. What comes next? Bounce hints at it.

Since we don't know for sure; why would we assume that God did it?
Edit- It's called being humble and it's something every scientist has to get used to. If we don't know the answer to something, then that is all the more reason to find out.

In science it is okay to say, "I don't know".
When you don't know something it is a poor idea to say, "This is proof of magic".
