Why does my dog has diarrhea?

Hi I have a 2 year old pit bull and one night we were having dinner and the threw up a little bit. Then the next morning when I took him outside he had diarrhea. When I gave him food in the morning he didn't wanted to eat so I had to force him. I figured his stomach was a little upset, next day his diarrhea seemed to improve a little bit so I gave him some carrots (his favorite snack) but today the diarrhea came back. I will definitely take him to the vet but I just want to know what to expect and I want to know if the carrots made the diarrhea worse. Am I able to give him anti-diarrheals such as loperamide or lomotil?

Update:

I have not changed his food. He has been eating Taste Of The Wild since he was born, the only thing I gave him besides his food was a wiener, a pork steak (well done) and carrots.

First of all, you should never force your dog to eat. The important thing is to make sure he is drinking water. If he stops drinking, you should give him water with a syringe and get him to the vet asap. Second, when your dog has diarrhea, you should withhold all food for 24 hours. After 24 hours, you can slowly introduce a very bland diet such as boiled chicken (no bones) and white rice. Be careful not to give him a large amount of food at once. For the first day, it is best to give him several small meals rather than one or two large meals. You can also give him a small amount of canned pumpkin with his meal, but be sure to give 100 % pure pumpkin and not pumpkin pie filling. If his diarrhea persists, you should take him to the vet. His diarrhea could be caused by a variety of factors such as a change in diet (maybe the wiener or pork steak you gave him) or even stress. Good luck and I hope your doggie is better soon.

I wouldn't force him to eat. He'll eat when he's ready.

But typically when a dog has diarrhea or vomiting it means that there is a disruption within the "mucousal" lining of the GI tract.

You could use some sort of inexpensive remedy that might help you and your dog. Whatever it is it needs to be something that supports the natural healing process of the lining in the GI tract. Things that have kaolin and pectin in them probably won't help you at all.

First, please don't force him to eat. He will when he's ready.

Has his food changed recently? Has he ate anything different? If so, that could be it. Any time you change the food you give a dog, you should do so gradually, mixing the new food with the old, and slowly increasing the amount of new food.

If his diet has not changed, I would bring him to the vet. No way to tell for sure unless you do.

    Hello

Some fresh boiled pumpkin mashed up will help settle the stomach.

Even by giving him the pork steak etc can upset the ph balance of his stomach and the link below will explain more for you.

    Good Luck

One of the possibilities could that he ate something that he wasn't suppose to I have a 2 year old pit too and sometimes if we give him the rawhide bones he gets diarrhea so we stopped because the vet said it's hard for them to digest, and there body is trying to get rid of what they can't digest.
