  • Getting full dentures on Monday, please help!?

I am only 29 years old, but need dentures...yes you read that right. When I was younger, about 13-14, I very distinctly remember my dentist at the time telling me that I had soft teeth and enamel on my teeth, and that, "by the time you are 30 to 35 you will need dentures." Well she was right!

I took care of my teeth growing up, and my mom made sure I went to the dentist regularly. However, once got into adulthood, my teeth just started decaying more and more. At first it wasn't too bad, but then, for some reason, it got worse and worse each time I was pregnant - I have 3 boys. Maybe its the hormones or something? I don't know, but after my youngest, who is now 2 years old, my teeth were in very bad shape. I realized at that time, that I needed to get them all pulled and get dentures. But, I didnt have the money, heck I still don't really. But, my parents VERY generously offered to pay for it. My mom told me, "I miss your big smile"....made me cry when she said that.....I am SO SO grateful for this gift they are giving me...

Anyway, I had the surgery on Jan. 4th, 2013 to have all my teeth pulled, so about 2 months ago. Over the last few weeks Ive been seeing my dentist to get the dentures made. He does it in 4 steps:

    1) Impressions are done

    2) Just the base, or gum part, of the denture is made, then I had to try those on to make sure things lined up right. At this time he also took measurements of my face, and I picked what shade I want the teeth to be

    3) Wax try in - this happened on Monday, and overall I am very happy with how things looked

    4) My dentist said that by Monday my dentures should be in and ready for pick up!

Exciting right? Yes, it is, but I am also very nervous. TO prepare, I have purchased some supplies. The following is a list of what I have. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE - if I am missing anything, or you have any suggestions, tell me!

    *Fixodent powder adhesive

    *Fixodent cleaning tablets

*Cushion Grip - since im 2 months out from teeth removal, I know my gums will continue to shrink. I also know I will have to see my dentist for adjustments, however, this stuff will help in between those visits

*toddler size tooth brush - Ive been told that the denture brushes, or even regular toothbrushes are too hard - the bristles are too hard, and that a toddler brush - the head of the toothbrush, is easy to get into the grooves/crevices of the dentures

*More regular tooth paste - for cleaning my gums, tongue, mouth

*Stain Away - to remove any built up stains

Is there anything else I should get? Also, what can I expect once i have my dentures? I know it will take time to get used to them...any tips to make these first few weeks easier! Also - I'm always on the look out for other ppl my age who wear dentures.....having a support system of ppl who are going through the same thing helps SO much, so please feel free to email me amywood71605@yahoo.com

  • How can I get my 2 year old to wear his glasses?

My youngest son (of 3 boys) has recently been prescribed glasses. Awhile back we noticed that his left seemed to turn in more. It's not really really bad, and sometimes you can't even notice it, but better safe than sorry right? The pedi. eye doctor we saw said that we'll try the glasses. In some cases, a child wears the glasses for awhile, it gets corrected and then he/she doesn't have to anymore. If the glasses don't work - minor surgery, so I'd REALLY like this to work.

Only problem is: My son is not at all interested! We paid more to get the special toddler glasses frames - with the strap that goes around the head. We also paid more to get lenses that are shatter proof, scratch proof, etc. He will wear them for maybe two minutes, then pull them off and gets mad and pulls away and fusses if we try to put them back on.

Any suggestions would be REALLY appreciated. The eye doctor did say to do it gradually, but right now it seems like we're making no progress =(

  • What can you do with Windows 8?

Im kinda a computer nerd deep down, lol. I like to have the latest stuff, and just recently go a new laptop, just under a week ago. My previous laptop wasn't even "old" - I got it in December 2011, so just over a year old. It was an HP Pavilion dv7 - 6 GB RAM, 500 GB Hard Drive, i7 processor, and I LOVED it - felt so fast, met my needs very well. I also liked windows 7 and MS Office that came with it.

My new laptop - I knew I wanted to keep up the speed, so I went a little bit more: It's a Sony Vaio, has Windows 8, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB Hard drive, 3rd generation i7 processor, HD display and webcam, backlit keyboard, also put MS Office 2013 of it.

My question is: Besides the start screen, how different is windows 8 from 7? Also, I haven't had a chance to play around with Office 2013 yet - any major changed there? Thanks!

  • Clipping my dog's claws, so nervous =(?

My dog is just over 7 months old. I have a male "schnoodle" - half schnauzer, half poodle mix. He's a small dog, but very smart, friendly, etc. He tolerates baths just fine, and lets me brush him. However, his claws are getting too long. I haven't actually tried clipping them yet, but I'm nervous about it. What's the best way to go about it? What clippers should I use? I'm scared of cutting too far back and hurting him......

Any advice or help is very appreciated. It needs to be done soon, just need some help first. =)

  • How's it going with your tax return?

Things have seemed a little crazy this year between the IRS waiting til 1/30 to officially start, the education credit delay, etc. How's everyone doing?

I filed on 1/18 with taxact and opted to have my fees taken out of my refund, which means it went to their bank, republic bank, first. My state and federal returns were both accepted on 1/25 - I got in on that test batch the IRS did. On 1/30, when "Wheres my refund" opened up, I checked it at 6:30 in the morning and it already showed "refund approved" and gave me a date of 2/1 for my deposit. I spoke to Republic bank on that same day and they had it already - on 1/30, which makes me believe that the IRS DID start processing some returns before the 30th....how else would it be that quick for me?! But, they were waiting for taxact to send them my info. Taxact finally did the next day, 1/31, and I had my federal refund hit my netspend card about about 10pm that night. My state refund came a few days later. Got my car fixed (need a LOT of repairs thanks to going off the road =(....about 2 grand).....got hubby a new TV and me a wicked fast laptop (1200 is what it cost - but sick, sick specs and so fast!) We got about 10 grand total between state and federal, and after all that, plus buying some clothes, our kids some goodies (oldest a kindle fire, 6 year old a kids tablet and bigger toy for my 2 year old)......we have about half of it left and put that into the bank/savings on Friday.

Wishing you all the best and hope those still waiting get their money soon!

  • Best way to straighten my hair?

I've always had slightly wavy hair. When I was younger it did not take long at all to straighten it. However, after I had my boys, it's like the hormones effected my hair: now its more wavy then ever - curly if I use gel in it when its damp, and also much, much thicker, to the point that if I dont have my hair dresser thin it regularly, I get headaches.

Because life is different now and Im busy with the kids, I dont straighten it all the time like I used to. But, for special occasions I like to, or if it was easier I would. So, is there something I could try? Right now I use a big round brush and my hair dyer and use that until its mostly dry, then I use the flat iron, but it takes a long time. There's got to be a better and quicker way :-/

  • Just started selling AVON, how will my 2013 tax return go?

Just started selling AVON, which is considered self employment. I do not expect to make a lot, especially have a big total by 12/31, but what do I need to do on my tax return when I file in January? What forms? What should I bring with me? Thanks!

  • Trying for a home loan, in underwriting for about 3 weeks, what does this mean?

Applied almost 4 weeks ago. After a few days the bank sent us a packet of papers to sign and asked for copies of pay stubs, bank statement, etc.

This past Friday made 3 weeks since we handed it all in. I tried getting in touch with the bank, and got an email back from them today. It said:

I hope you received the email I forwarded on 10/15, explaining the process of your application.

Your loan was decisioned on Friday 10/19 by our underwriting department.

You will be receiving the information in the mail this week.

If any questions, give me a call.

I never got the 10/15 email, have not heard ANYTHING in these few weeks. What does underwriting mean? Does the fact it went into underwriting mean it was initially "oked" by the bank? Just frustrated at the lack of communication from the bank - was never even told when it went into underwriting.

  • Becoming an AVON sales rep help!?

My best friend is a rep and is trying to become a Unit leader, so I've decided to sign up - been thinking about doing it anyway.

I know its $10 to sign up, but I read somewhere that the process can be done online? How does this work? When I went to the website it said I need either her reference number/code or the last part of the URL to her personal AVON web page. I dont have the reference code, but when I put in the last part of her URL the form came up. However, after filling it all out and trying to submit it I kept getting an error message about my soc. sec. number. Why is this?? It said if it keeps happening to "contact your sales rep. who referred you to this page." Does she need to do something first on her end before I can fill out the form - like put something into the system? And, since she is not a Unit Leader quite yet (needs one more after me), will she even have a reference number?

  • Buying First House - how will our tax return be different?

First time home buyers - me and my husband. We have 3 children and both work full time. He make about 10/hour and I make 11/hour.

How will purchasing this house effect our tax return - what will be different?

  • Applied for a home loan 3 weeks ago, does it normally take this long for an answer?

My husband and I found a house we really like. We've been to look at it twice and a few weeks ago applied to the three local banks around here. We are first time home buyers.

2 of the 3 said no, and those "nos" came very quickly - within days. This last one, however, has been very different. For one, instead of hearing "no" after a few days we got a ton of papers in the mail. Stuff for us to sign that basically says "If we're approved this is the interest rate, this is what we'll need for a downpayment, etc". They also asked us for copies of our paystubs, tax returns, bank statement, etc.

My husband brought all the paperwork in, in person exactly 3 weeks ago today. We have not heard a word either way. Earlier this week I emailed the bank and someone wrote back and said they would forward my email to the local bank we're dealing with, but that was Monday and nothing.

I'm just wondering - could it possibly be a good sign that it's taking longer? Not getting my hopes up, at all. We've already decided that if this doesn't work out that we'll wait at least 6 months, keep making all our current payments on time and keeping our credit good and then try again. Just really wondering what's up with this.

I have a 14 week old male schnauzer/poodle mix. Just wondering how old he has to be for me to get him neutered? Want to do it as soon as I can. I know with my cats I was told like 4-6 months. Not sure about dogs though. Thanks. =)

  • Cat has/had an abcess but I think it's gone, help please?

About a week or so ago I noticed that one of my cats was very swollen near his neck/lower jaw. Upon inspection I saw a small scratch on his neck and it was obvious the whole area was sore. A couple hours later he was scratching at the area and then meowed loudly. I went and looked at him and sure enough - a bunch of puss and crap was coming out. With my husband help we expressed as much as we could (a LOT came out), and then let it drain on its own. We used peroxide on it 3 times a day and it continued to drain for about 4-5 days. Now, it hasn't drained for a bit and it looks like it's healed on its on. There is no more swelling in the area, his fur is growing back in better and he does not seem to be bothered at all.

Can I assume its healed ok? I know I *should* have taken him to the Vet. right off, but honestly? What would they do there? They'd sedate him and lance and drain it, right? He opened it by scratching, we drained it, and then kept the area clean. What more is there?

  • First Time home buyer, will this work?

Any and all advice is appreciated:

Right now my husband and I rent, 725 a month for a trailer that our family is outgrowing. We have 3 boys, ages 8, 5 and 20 months. There is a place for sale in town - owner owns it completely. It's technically a trailer but it has 2 additions on it. With those additions it's stationary. It is 4 bedrooms, 3 full baths, fire place, pool, shed outside, fenced yard, 1/2 an acre. The owner is asking $62,000 for it but seems pretty motivated to sell it so I'm thinking he'd take a lower offer.

We've never owned a home before, have never even tried/applied for a home loan. Where do I start? What can I expect?

And yes, I know I'll need money to put down. We've been saving for awhile anyway. We don't want to rent forever.

Just really unsure of what to expect. The owner said he's had only a couple calls on it, but we're the only ones that have looked at it and shown real interest.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Age to starting teaching my puppy commands - best way to go about it?

Our family's new puppy is about 8 weeks old. He's a schnauzer/poodle mix and won't get very big at all. We've had him for about a week now and in that time I wanted to focus on just getting him settled and starting right in on potty training and teaching him to sleep in his kennel at night. The potty training is going VERY well. He's had zero accidents. Granted, I do bring him out pretty often (thus not really giving him a chance to), but he's doing good with it. Kennel at night was a little rough the first couple nights - he whined a lot but now is doing MUCH better. I do get up during the night to let him out, I know he can't hold it all night.

Now, I also want to teach him other stuff - "sit", "lay down", "shake" - (he puts his paw in my hand), etc. Is it too early to start that? If not, or when it is time - what is the best way to do it? Treat each time and lots of praise I'm guessing, but I also don't want to overdo it with the treats and have him not eat good with his puppy food (Puppy Chow is what we get). Any advice anyone has would be great. I've heard poodles are pretty smart, and I know he's only half poodle, but i'm hoping he'll learn stuff pretty well =)

  • What do you think of my new puppy? Picture included, please answer!?

We adopted this little guy just recently. He's a schnauzer/poodle mix and will not get very big. He is 7 and 1/2 weeks old. So far he's doing very well with potty training, and we are training him to sleep in his kennel at night. For the first couple of nights he whined and cried quite a bit but now it's getting better. I know the worst thing to do is give in and take him out though, so we're not, even though it's hard =) We have cats too but they're getting along with him just fine. My husband and I have three boys, ages 8, 5 and 19 months, and they are also very excited, and good with him. He's a great addition to our family!

And yes, all my pets receive regular vet care/checkups and their shots. When he's old enough he'll be neutered too. =) Thanks for looking!

  • Yes a "schnoodle" is a mixed breed, but that IS what they are called right?

    http://dogtime.com/dog-breeds/schnoodle

I didn't make it up, as I've been accused I have. Why you all are getting so worked up over what I choose for a dog anyway is beyond me. The dog will be very VERy well cared for, loved...very much a part of the family, and no I am not spending hundreds like you jerks assume....in fact, I AM getting it from a shelter,
