my dog chases its tail?

Every time my dog finishes his dinner he chases his tail for 10 seconds then does a victory lap of the house. Is this just him being happy? I have seen that chasing his tail could be issues with his bum but it does not appear to be painful to him (and does not last long)

About him

He is a mini jack russell, walk him every day, and use worming tabs and frontline on him as suggested on packs.

I've yet to meet the dog who doesn't, at some point in time, chase its own tail. It's natural and it's fun for the dog so don't worry about it.

As for having a problem with his bum, without sounding too crude, he will show you when he has when he sits down, lifts his leg up, stretches his neck forward and downward, so he can get to his bum with his tongue. That's how dogs usually take care of that part of their anatomy.

That's obsessive behavior, and should not be tolerated. Your dog is bored. Call your local kennel club and see if there are any earth dog trainers in your area, or even within an hour or two away, and get your dog started in earth dog training, what he was bred to do.

There is NO such thing as a MINI JRT, they come in ONE size only. FRONTLINE is only 75% effective. My vet recommends Advantage II. As far as worming is concerned, you did, of course, take a stool sample into your vet to have it analyzed, and got meds from the vet. OTC products don't work, a waste of $$$.

If he only chases his tail for 10 seconds after eating and he isn't wasting hours at it, I think you're just fine. Sounds like he just loves to eat!

I have a 5 year old black lab that still growls at and chases his tail, it sounds like he is just being happy :-) if his face looks happy he's happy.

It's normal I have quite a few dogs but none of them did it except for one, I thought it was strange, until she had puppies and now they all do it too. It just means there excited and happy. They are just having fun.

It's ok as long as he does not become obsessive with it. Mine does it sometimes and I spray his tail with bitter apple. In Bull Terriers sometimes they cannot stop.
