Chicago teachers want a 40% increase, smaller group classes & re-hire of fired teachers?

They already earn over $70,000. dollars plus benefits & sport one of worst teaching records in the nation. So why should they get a salary increase, let alone a 40% increase.

What do you think?

Update:

Thor Veblen: That`s too nice for them at least leaches have a purpose. The`re PARASITES, all they do is suck the life out of you & they make no contribution whatsoever.

Update 3:

JOEBORSA: We can thank good old Jimmy for that. Even a fifth grader can see the big difference between private employers & public employers. Just about every state, cities & Federal treasuries are bankrupt. But these greedy teachers, who are being paid way over the average Joe, do not care that there is no money to cover their outrageous demands. & they have the gall to say they are doing all of this crap to benefit our children? If they really cared about teaching our children we would not rank 26th in education.

I would do what Reagan did with the Air Traffic Controllers, fire them all & recruit those teachers who really do care & whose teaching methods reflect on what our children learn.

Only 15% of 4th graders in Chicago are proficient in reading so what does that say about the job teachers have been doing? If a child can't even read proficiently by 4th grade, what does that say for the 8 years going forward in the rest of their education. That says 85% failure. A 4% raise per year is not deserved. Replacing a lot of losers seems to be in order.

I think part of the problem is teachers belonging to a union that believes in more and more and more.......along with many of the students know they will pass their grades because the teachers are told to pass them because the administration don't want higher failure rates. The teachers should be screened by testing teachers and then testing students with standard tests.

What the unions and demorats do is cave to each other which ends up making the students the losers.

Even FDR said that government workers should not be allowed to unionize. I think either that should be the case or their unions should not be allowed to contribute to political campaigns. You can have all sorts of regulations on campaign finance, Oh that's OK, but even if you consider restricting unions "rights" to contribute to campaigns, that's a First Amendment violation.

They're being offered 16% over four years. Nowhere in the article does it say they're asking for a 40% raise.
