Why does the hour change when you travel east or west? Read more detail before answering...?

As one travels east or west the hours change. Why is it not that when one travels north or south the months change. In other terms why is this not true?: change in hour : passing lines of longitude as change in month : passing lines of latitude. The change in months makes sense because when it is summer in the north it is winter in the south. There probably is not a definitive answer, so just write a comment about the question. Like whether you agree or not and your opinion, or an answer that you found somewhere (if you find an answer somewhere cite your sources). Thanks.
