Ten points to whoever brings even the smallest proof that astrology is not worthless crap?

Self-explanatory. Best answer goes to the person who brings irrefutable proof of not only the fact that planetary alignment affects your personality in a more visible way than education and social environment but that it does in the way it's presented in what you consider "professional" horoscopes.

Update:

@Blue ninja: Wow, just wow. Don't bring proof of how ignorance is related to believing in horoscopes. I already know that.

Update 2:

@Jehen: Well, I meant "worthless" more as in scientific worth and its importance to the world's morality. Didn't think about the literal meaning, sorry.

Update 3:

@Serpentine: Refer to my reply to Blue ninja. Actually, things like astrology start bothering you when you have nothing else to bother you. So, it's not that I have other problems, it's the exact opposite. Religion and astrology bother me, because my daddy doesn't beat me, my mother isn't a crack whore and people don't make fun of me because I'm not popular.

Update 4:

@Been There: Biggest fail on the internet. Commenting along the lines of "who cares". Apparently you do, idiot.

@Lady WaaWaaWe: That's the number one argument of people who know their belief is crap.

Update 5:

@Kalista♥: I don't hate myself, lol. I love myself and I also love kids like you who rip off lines from cheesy movies, like "You're a meanie just because you hate yourself."

My question is 100% legit, everybody here is so butthurt because they know their belief system is crap and they dislike the fact that my question made them think about that.

And the fact that you can "see" astrology is exactly why I think it's harmful to humanity. It's not there, you're just imagining a load of crap as an excuse to direct your life, your relationships with other people, just because your uneducated mind can't comprehend reality in a logical way.

Update 6:

@urwelcome: Sorry, I didn't read your answer, because you think water is made of air and I'm sure you're not gonna bring logical proof to anything.

For people who read this and wanna have some laughs: before reading urwelcome's answer, look at this: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AtGYg...

This guy thinks water is made of air.

Update 7:

@urwelcome: Sorry, I couldn't help my life and read your answer. How am I imposing my ideas on others? I admit that using the term "worthless crap" was kinda harsh, but it's still a legit question. If you believe this, give me a reason as to why. I'm not saying you shouldn't believe horoscopes because I said so, just because they're not real. And you're not trying to prove the contrary, so you got me really confused.

Update 8:

@┼λє.Køs Ðιckιиsøŋ: If you knew anything about science you should know that the burden of proof falls on the one with the strongest claim. Which is astrology. Just like atheists don't have to provide proof of God's non-existence, but rather theists have to find proof of God's existence, I don't have to bring any proof.

In layman's terms: Your claim is so stupid that you should back it up if you want people to believe it.

Update 9:

@Amber: Sorry, I don't give my personal info to strangers. Besides, that's not the point. Even if you were able to make my complete psychological profile, even tell me the name of my favorite movie, based on the date of my birth, it still wouldn't be "proof". If you get 100,000 people right, but 1 wrong, that means your system is wrong and mainly that's why astrology is crap.

@♉burnttoast♑: Same thing I told to ┼λє.Køs Ðιckιиsøŋ. Apparently, you people lack the understanding of concepts such as "science" and "proof".

Enlighten yourselves: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_method

Update 10:

@SaggiMC: Let's focus on the links:

1st: Let's look at this fragment, as an example: " The Southern California Methodist Hospital discovered that more babies are conceived on the waxing moon than on the waning. Out of 11,025 births over a period of six years, nearly 1,000 more children were conceived during the waxing moon which is statistically significant. It appears that successful conception is easier at that time of the waxing moon. In another study, German researcher W. Buehler analyzed 33,000 births and discovered that there was a significant preponderance of male births during the waxing moon."

So that's it? You take the factor that is the most convenient to you and ignore the others. Correlation does not imply causation and that point is invalid unless someone explains exactly how the moon's gravity affects sperm and ovules and all that.

About Carl Jung's study: First of all, about his belief: he believed that everything in the Universe is conne

    There's no such thing.

Astrology isn't a science; it's more of a spiritual belief. It's like asking people to prove God exists, lol, when the only "proof" for either is faith.

Besides, for most people, astrology isn't about the scientific validity or spiritual ideals. There is some interesting history and symbolism behind it that I personally love, but It's mostly about the fun! I mean, take into account the fact that you're in the "Entertainment" section. It's pretty silly to try to start a "scientific" discussion here, lol.

I'm a Scorpio Sun, Leo Moon. :) What about you?

if you don't see the reason in it, then fine. leave it alone.

why does it bother you that someone believes in something? you can go and try to change the minds of everyone in the world... but you'll fail.

there's no scientific proof that God exists or that Jesus walked the earth. but people still believe in him.

Nietzsche said something along the lines of "A stroll through the psych ward of a hospital will show that faith doesn't prove anything". this is true. a bunch of people in an internet forum who live their lives by a yet-to-be-proven pseudoscience can be roughly classified as insane. but does it really make the slightest difference to you?

people refer to astrology on many varying levels, to different extents. some people believe that it's magical and predicts the future. some believe that it will give them helpful guidelines written in the stars by which to inprove themselves upon. and some just practice it as a hobby. it's like being good at a particular board game, or at movie trivia. who cares if it's not real, just hop off their jocks and let them play. if you give someone a bunch of fake, made-up rules off the top of your head to abide by that promise some sort of salvation, if it works, who cares? this makes people happy. if they believe it helps them, and it does, then it's served its purpose. it may be due to a placebo effect, of someone reading a bologna horoscope and then somehow connecting what it says to the most miniscule coincidences in their lives, it's working regardless.

i'm not gonna try to prove you wrong, or prove astrology, because i'm fully aware that it can'tbe done.

you're completely correct, and i agree with you: astrology cannot be proven for sure.

but it's not like a religion, it's not even a real science. so don't take it so seriously that people partake in its practices. there is no truth. a lot of things in life cannot and never will be proven. so i'll conclude with a friendly surrender and acknowledgement that we, the astrologers, can't prove it.

but it's nothing to get all worked-up about. you just do you. and everyone else will do them.

well let me put it this way.....in India astrology was a great science and they say that every planet movement effect a persons body and mind....Now in a scientific way there are 5 elements and even Moon's wax and wane phases cause tides and various other effects.....our body is also made of these 5 elements so just guess...will it not have an effect??

astrology is a science and people who lived 200 yrs ago were 100% accurate in their reading where as today people follow only the bullet points. Hence no accuracy....

The inability to find proof does not prove that something is wrong or without value, just as finding patterns or consistencies doesn't prove something is right 100% of the time.

Im not talking about faith or believing in the impossible. Merely that if something is beyond our understanding then we should continue to try to understand it. If proof isnt found then we should keep looking for proof. Its the skeptics that keep searching in the dark that find the answers, and those that are blinded by the light of facts that limit their views and cant see beyond their current knowledge.

They used to say the sun revolved around the earth, and those that suggested it was the other way around were considered crack pots. This is called paradigm paralysis. The world was caught up believing a lie because they had no proof of the truth. It took about a thousand years of searching and a crackpot like Galileo who believed without proof to finally find the truth.

I dont believe blindly in astrology, and dont claim to understand it fully. Yet i see something of value in it enough to keep trying to understand it. One should never narrow their views only to that which can be explained and easily understand or we will never learn beyond that.

Always keep your mind open to the possibility of more because even the 'facts' can be wrong sometimes.

I don't have proof that astrology works, but you don't have proof that it doesn't = CHECKMATE

Its way too complicated to start, the planetary position and sometimes even physic comes into the picture. If you are interested you can start your own research on why this pseudo-science not a worthless crap. Please don't waste your time and my time.

EDIT: So do you find it a worthless crap?

Why do you find it a worthless crap?

What do you know about this worthless crap? Is it enough to consider this a worthless crap?

Why do you care to ask if this worthless crap is indeed a worthless crap?

What does having a good family have anything to do with this worthless crap?

How do you know that this worthless crap is not affecting your life right now?

EDIT 2: "Sorry, I couldn't help my life and read your answer" You just prove your own close mindedness. Pathetic.

    1. The Southern hemisphere has different seasons.

Were astrology anything more than worthless cr*p, then the cardinal zodiacs would be reversed.

    2. The precession of the equinoxes means that the constellations are moving backwards along the equatorial arch.

Were astrology anything more than worthless cr*p, then the zodiacs would gradually adjust with them.

    3. Personality is defined by a number of complex influences; some to do with heredity, some to do with environment, some to do with personal attitude/decisions.

Were astrology anything more than worthless cr*p, then there would be a correlation between the zodiacs and personality.

    So, there you go.

Alas, I could not argue in the other direction.

It's worthless to you because I mean come on.. You hate yourself so much already..finding out the truth to people and how people really think about you in reality will just kill u. I rather believe in horoscope then believing in god or the stupid bible that was "supposedly" writing by him.. I believe astrology because I can see it.. God, I don't! If you think astrology is crap, you just haven't met those who worship something they can't see

HAHAHAHAHAHA you made my morning! thanks for that laugh. You people (yes you're not unique someone always comes here complaining about astrology) are hilarious. It doesn't matter that you don't believe in astrology, its the rigor in which you approach your disdain. Your panties are in such a twist. Psychologically speaking one simple thing cannot bother the human brain that much, you must have other problems. Oh and you are never going to find the proof you are looking for, this is not chemistry class, it's astrology. It's applied. You have to experience it for yourself. So get your head out of your a**

Being a big talker without any trace of evidences to back you up is a total failure. If you want to prove us wrong, prove us by actually knowing the "stuff" to prove it to us. So far I haven't seen a single debating material to prove you're winning the debate. Like, umm, let me give you a tip, e.g. attack on the birth chart to prove it inconsistent. If you can, then you're on a right track but I pity you because you're doomed by your low level of debating skills.

Ten points? A million dollars is so much better for such evidence. Just show astrology out performing randomness.

No one that promotes astrology can produce evidence. Neither can the scientists. Can't conduct science unless testable evidence exists. Those that claim to have "studied" astrology for decades never publish their results. All this time along with money that is personally invested, why is there nothing? The reason for no current serious research is because all previous results are negative. There is no reason to make an investment for nothing. But for believers, not passing tests are of no concern. They "know" and the concept of self deception is totally alien.

    @Angel

Obviously you did not pay attention in school. You don't know what science is or how it's conducted. Astrology in India is called "science" only because their law system says so. Don't expect a Nobel Prize from this area. Astrologers stopped observing the sky centuries ago. Too much work for them to do. WAS a "great" science, so very true. Science is self correcting and when better evidence is found, the old must be trashed.

Real science has strict rules and limitations. Astrology and other pseudoscience (pseudo means false) have none. Anything is possible and need not be "proved".

@♉burnttoast♑ Yes, the inability not to find proof does disprove. Don't you think something so extraordinary should a least have a little evidence?

Your example of belief of once people everything moved around the earth shows how science is self correcting. The point of view was valid until that crackpot Galileo made a powerful telescope himself and started looking. The right tool made the difference, not the belief. Finding four moons orbiting Jupiter proved astrology obsolete. Astrologers ignore these but embraced the outer planets found with the telescope. Now as back then, they started cherry picking what gets used. Astrology is now just another form of divination, just more bigoted than the others.
