To workers under 55: which plan would you choose?
Medicare as it is in terms of premiums and benefits, but with savings from raising the retirement age, removing or raising the income cap, slowing the growth of payments to providers, eliminating or restructuring Medicare Advantage plans so that their costs are no higher than other regular plans, etc.
A choice between traditional Medicare and a voucher system, with the voucher tied to the cost of living even though premiums traditionally increase by much more. And if this is your choice, would you choose the voucher?

Medicare as it is, even with a raise in retirement age...
simply put, I pay for my health insurance now and I'm healthy... I HAVE NO IDEA how any plan could be affordable for sick old people... at least not without a voucher that would cost more (probably a lot more) than traditional medicare costs per person...yet they say the plan will "save money"... sounds like it will save them money and eat into my retirement...
when they say things like "we're going to delay it 10 years so that people can adjust their retirement savings to compensate" that tells me that it's going to be REALLY EXPENSIVE and you need at least 10 years to save up a lot for it...

You cannot get Medicare until you are 67 under the Ryan proposal. The age of 55 is confusing. That refers to people turning 55 in 2023 when his plan takes effect but they wont get Medicare until 2035. The way Ryan plans to balance the budget is getting rid of Obamacare. Here is a link to a story about his plan. People can decide for themselves.
I dont get why you are asking about this now when it takes place so far in the future and most people on Yahoo Answers are about 20 years old. This current budget wont be passed unless there is a Republican majority in Congress and a Republican president.

False choice. The voucher under Ryan's plan is optional NOW, but for Americans under age 55, it would be mandatory. Either way, no I would not support paying thousands more dollars out of pocket when I'm on a fixed income.

How about this?
Take whatever health/medical plan is available to Senators and Representatives and their families -- no more and no less -- and make that available to everyone in the US.
That would be the fairest solution of all.
Congress works for US - WE are their EMPLOYERS - therefore we should have the same coverage as OUR EMPLOYEES have.
No?

Voucher system will bankrupt many seniors who can't afford to pay the medical bills. Very bad idea!!
