How to ask for monetary help?

I was laid off a year ago and am having a difficult time finding a job. I am self-conscious that my speech problem may be evident to a future employer. I have a speech impediment and heard of a device that improves fluency by 80% (Speech Easy) but is rather expensive and cannot afford it. How would I go about asking for monetary help. Any helpful input would be appreciated. Serious resplies only please.
