my dog died on Tuesday. Could I have killed her?

My female chihuahua weighing 3 lbs was diagnosed with kidney disease in 2007 and I did not know how long she will live. She died this past week. She lost 2 lbs and was very weak. SHe had been vomitting and not eating well for the last 1 month. I took her to emergency when she was collapsing and could not even walk. I took her to the hospital on Monday night and and on Tuesday morning I thought she looked better. Then, I took her to her regular vet hospital and they kept her long enough to tell me that she may die. I went to see her in the evening on Tuesday and she was not conscious or at least was barely alive. I gave her a hug and she tensed in my arms and then became a weighless. She died in my arms. I was told she died that night. I believe she was dead when I left her and saw her take her last breath. I feel responsible for her death. She was dehydrated and I gave her a drop or two of water when she tensed up and swallowed like she could not breathe. I killed her???

Update:

She was very healthy last year or 1 year ago...she started getting ill in April this year but I did not want her to get stressed so did not take her to the vet. I thought that they will do tests on her and she will get worse not better. SHould I have taken her to the vet in April when she stopped eating properly. She was a happy dog but was stressed easily. She did not go to everyone and hated being picked up by strangers.

Sorry to hear that but the vet told you that she didn't have long to live because of the kidney disease. Keep in mind you are not to blame. R.I.P

"She had been vomitting and not eating well for the last 1 month. I took her to emergency when she was collapsing and could not even walk" Why did you wait so long to take her to a vet? Often, when people wait, it is too late.

Yes you should have taken her to a vet in April! Sick pets need vets and you knew yours was sick. I feel sorry for your dog.

No, you did not kill her. My bull terrier also came down with kidney disease. She got weak and could not stand or eat. I took her in to be PTS... I am still heartbroken. it has been 3 yrs. When they get like that there is nothing we can do. I have tried to move on.. Got a new dog, but she is always on my mind and in my heart. Best to you.

no. i felt the same way when my cat died. i took him to the vet, gave him his medicine, and he just got worse. at first, i blamed myself because i thought the vet is full of germs, and his immune system wasn't strong enough to fight the germs. i also blame myself for giving him the medicine because i thought it made him weak and then the germs killed him.

but looking back, he was ill, and i did my best to try to save him.

there's nothing you can do. she was ill, but at least you and her got to spend her last moment together.

No you didn't kill her, she hung in there long enough for you to come to her and hold her.

Her kidneys were bad and not working, they just quit at that time.

It was her time, she is in no pain and in peace.

No, you did not kill her, she was very ill. At least when she died she was with you! Don't feel guilty, you're not responsible for her death at all!

No. Don't beat yourself up for it! I'm sorry for your loss. Remember she was very sick and there wasn't anything you could do to stop it. If I were you, I would have put her to sleep after it became REALLY bad so she wouldn't suffer.
