"Days of Heaven" (1978) starring Richard Gere is generally acknowledge the most beautifully photographed movie ever made. Never mind the odd, Brooklyn accent narration or the plot, just turn it on and revel in photography. Even though most of the film is set in Texas, it was actually filmed in Canada and production took a full year because they waited for the seasons to change.
"The Man Who Wasn't There" starring Billy Bob Thorton is a masterpiece of b/w photography. Many of the scenes look like photos from the 1940s. Tremenous film that never got the acclaim it deserves.
"Lawrence of Arabia" (1962) starring Peter O'Toole as the legendary T.E. Lawrence. I first saw this on the big screen in 1963 and only the big screne does it justice. The magnificent sweeping images of the desert are unforgettable.
"Hero" starring Jet Li is one of the most spectacully photographed and beautiful movies of all time. I can watch it over and over just for the fantastic colors.

The Dark Knight Rises. While it may not be the best answer for your question, without a doubt it is a beautiful movie. Full of action, heart, and incredible emotion, The Dark Knight Rises stands as one of the best movies of all time.

pans labyrinth is a dark fairy tale of a girl in the Spanish civil war who retreats into her own imagination because of the horrible reality of the events around her. It can be sinister and violent but is sad and beautiful in parts.
