Using a 1080P HDTV for Computer Monitor?

I'm looking to buy a 1080P HDTV(24 inch) and I'm going to be using it for a computer monitor with an HDMI cable. My question is do all computers support these high end screens or is it possible I'm going to have to buy a 720P HDTV?

Update:

Both my computer and the screen have an HDMI port so that is not a problem. My problem may be the graphics card like the second poster mentioned.

The TV should work fine, 1080P TVs are able to display things in lower resolutions. So the TV will be able to display everything in 720P just fine; you can also adjust the resolution from: start menu > control panel > adjust screen resolution.

I use a 22" Viewsonic HDTV/monitor, connected with a VGA cable. My desktop needed a new graphics card, but my laptop was plug n play.

Not if they don't have an HDMI out on them obviously.
