A good laptop for university?

I'm not computer savvy at all and i'm wondering about laptops. My nan was going to buy me a mac for christmas but I know for a fact they are way over priced for what you are buying. Now i'm wondering what make or what laptop would be perfect for university, casual things, maybe some gaming etc. I will be doing physics/maths at uni so enough processing power to handle a variety of computer software at any one time. The price range can be from £300 - £800 really, I'm looking for a really reliable, fast laptop.

Thank you!!

The question you really should be asking is what programs you will be running, and base your decision on that.

I'm a computer science major and required to take linear algebra, and I have to run software that only runs under windows (although I did get it to work under WINE). I have had technical problems doing homework, but that is a choice I made (not to run windows).

Find out what software you are going to use, see what operating systems the software is for, then go for a mac, pc, or other operating system.

A pc is surely needed for college, primarily is you are taking compute-associated publications. A computer will do satisfactory. A desktop isn't integral. However a laptop will make matters loads less difficult for you.
