Is it likely that universities will send out emails the day before results with application results?
Results day for A level is on the 15th of august, I was wondering whether it is likely the university i'm applying to (Warwick) will send out an email the day before? I will feel so nervous and sickly on the day finding out so I'd rather it just be a surprise when I open up my email in the afternoon the day before...
I've heard of this happening before but a quick search didn't help me with much.
1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)8 years agoHow to find equation of the plane with three coordinates?
Find the cartesian equation of the plane which passes through the points:
A(3,0,0) B(2,0,5) and C(4,-3,1)
Now googling this to find some answers and I came across this cross product thing, this is something I do not do for my MEI maths C4 exam in two days, I have to use another method.
Normally if I am given the normal vector to the plane which happens in most cases, I can simply use: n.r = n.a
However there are sometimes where I do not get given the normal and only three coordinates, I've never seen it come up in the exam, only in my textbook. I would really like some help trying to figure this out. In my book it has something to do with simultaneous equations however everytime I try it I get the wrong answer.
Thank you for your time.
2 AnswersMathematics8 years agoIs the most intellectually honest position to take, that of agnosticism?
Atheism is defined as the theory or belief that God does not exist and theism is defined as the belief that God does exist. Neither have a slick of empirical evidence to bolster that specific worldview, although I do understand you cannot prove a negative in that you cannot prove God doesn't exist, just that the likelihood of his/her/its existence shrinks asymptotically to 0.
Agnosticism on the other hand is more of a position of knowledge, accepting that nothing can be known about the existence of a deity since the scientific endeavour for example does not take into account and simply cannot measure supernatural phenomenon. Many self proclaimed atheists, and I was one of them, would say you cannot prove God doesn't exist, there simply isn't any evidence for his existence, so why are you not an agnostic?
Question also holds for theists.
Thank you.
25 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agoWhat can I do with code?
I've recently began learning a little bit of code on codecademy.com, starting off with some javascript and now i'm completing the sections on HTML. It is fun and I am enjoying the problem solving and tasks but I have this feeling that the work I am doing is completely futile, I literally have no idea what I am learning, I understand it is 'useful', but is it useful for me, right now, when I don't even know how to carry my knowledge from that website to the outside world?
I will be going to study Physics in the UK (hopefully at Warwick) in september and will be learning either C or MATLAB, with no previous experience needed, so I understand delving into the basics of coding may help when I go to university, but is it useful right now?
I'm basically asking what I can do with the code I am learning on this website and whether it is going to be useful to me? I'm not really bothered about creating websites, but are there some cool uses that could enhance my time on computers if I manage to learn at least the basics of code?
Thank you in advance.
3 AnswersProgramming & Design8 years agoI want to learn how to code, please help.?
After just watching: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKIu9yen5nc&list=PL...
I have become inspired to learn how to code. I will heading off to university in september to study Physics and I will no doubt be taught programming there, but I want to start now, I want to learn the basics and most importantly: I want to learn more about computers.
At the moment I don't know what I can use code for, I don't know what language to learn and if I was to immediately dive into learning Python for example, I would come out not having a clue what to do next.
My computer is a mac, so I basically want to start off simple. I don't want to go learn a computer program that I can't use on my laptop (if that is even possible). I don't want someone to leave a comment saying: " Coding can be used to make websites and apps, so go learn this code here: XXXX ". I don't particularly want to come out of this knowing how to make a website, I want to know the ins and outs of my laptop to begin with, I want to know what I can use the terminal for etc.
If I go learn python, what do I do next? Like I said, I don't really want to start making websites, I just want to understand computer programming, coding etc and see where that leads me.
Help? aha
2 AnswersProgramming & Design8 years agoHow to play skyrim downloaded from steam, on a macbook pro?
I recently downloaded Skyrim from steam without realising Skyrim is a PC only game and is not compatible with Mac. I've decided i'm not going to waste £20 or so on the game so I want to know how to play skyrim on a mac.
I have transferred all my Skyrim program files from a PC to my mac. Now I do not know what to do. I have searched for hours now trying to figure this out, do I need some sort of 'crack'? Where can I download this? I tried using a wrapper in wineskin, followed the instructions, went to play the game and the skyrimlauncher bounced up and down in my bottom bar a few times and then disappears.
Can somebody give me a step by step tutorial, or a link to an up to date website that tells me how to do this? THANK YOU!

1 AnswerLaptops & Notebooks9 years agoLaptop for university 2012, 10 points for best answer.?
I'm looking for a laptop for university next year in which I will be studying physics. I'm not good at computer's at all and just telling me the required specs isn't really that much of a help. I have around £400-£1000 to spend on a laptop so I want it to be good. The main things im looking for is:
Good battery life (6+ hours), very reliable meaning it should last me for 4 years or atleast an extended warrenty, relatively light (no more than like 3.5 kilograms), be very fast and able to run multiple programs at once.
I have no idea about certain brands and some people say others are rubbish compared to some and I just confused so I someone could give me specific models or good laptop makes it would be great.
Thank you so much.
1 AnswerLaptops & Notebooks9 years agoA good laptop for university?
I'm not computer savvy at all and i'm wondering about laptops. My nan was going to buy me a mac for christmas but I know for a fact they are way over priced for what you are buying. Now i'm wondering what make or what laptop would be perfect for university, casual things, maybe some gaming etc. I will be doing physics/maths at uni so enough processing power to handle a variety of computer software at any one time. The price range can be from £300 - £800 really, I'm looking for a really reliable, fast laptop.
Thank you!!
5 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks9 years agoUniversity costs/accommodation help! (UK)?
I'm going to university next year and it would be great if someone could explain to me loans and fees and stuff because i've been searching non stop and I still don't understand it?
1) My course will be £9,000 a year for 4 years, will I have to pay that back straight away? If not, when do I have to start paying it back?
2) Accommodation will be around £100 a week for the 3 years (1st year is free apparently), do I need to pay that straight away? Or can I get a student loan to pay it for me? If so, when do I start paying the student loan back?
3) If I do get a student loan and assuming I can use it to pay for my rent, will I need to get a part time job for food/living etc? Or can I get a separate loan for that?
I'm just wondering because my family isn't wealthy at all and i'd love to go to universities like Leeds or Warwick or Bristol/Sussex or even Imperial college of London, but my dad is saying it will cost too much money. Will my family have to pay any money for my university life apart from food etc if I don't get a part time job? Can't I just pay the debt (assuming I don't have to already pay straight away, see top questions!) when I get a job?
Thank you for your time!
2 AnswersHigher Education (University +)9 years agoAdvice on my A Level subjects for Physics/Maths at university...?
Hey, i'm currently in year 12 with subjects: Physics, Maths, Chemistry and Biology. I get my results in august for my AS results, and i'm currently predicted something along the lines of four A's or three A's and a B.
I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on what subjects I should take/drop to give me an advantage when applying for physics at universities.
My maths teacher is offering to do further maths for my class next year when I am in year 13, so I will receive an AS level in further maths.
Should I drop biology and take further maths? Or don't take further maths and keep biology as an A level. So my results would be along the lines of:
AAAaa or
or AAAA (optimistically speaking).
Would it be better to have an AS level in further maths AND an AS level in biology if I wanted to take physics or maths at university? Or should I stick to my four subjects, because if I don't take that option, I will be sticking with all my subjects.
So I basically want to know if two AS levels is really worth it, even if one is further maths, compared to having 4 A levels?
Thank you for your time!
1 AnswerMathematics9 years agoResistivity question help please? 10 points.?
Question: The resitivity of aluminium is twice that of copper. However, the density of aluminium is one-third that of copper.
a) For equal length and resistance calculate the ratio: mass of aluminium over mass of copper.
This topic isn't on density, it is on resitivity and ohm's and voltage and current etc.
If anyone could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.
Resitivity equation is: p = RA/L
Resitivity = p
Resitance = R
Cross-sectional area = A
Length = L
1 AnswerPhysics9 years agoAny good bands/rappers/artists to listen to?
My itunes is getting a bit stagnant lately, withh not many fresh songs being put on there, I was wondering if anyone had any great bands or rappers to listen to?
I like pretty much all music to be honest from screamo to rap as long as it's catchy and i'm looking for sort of unknown people but still really good.
Bands that are similar to these would be good:
Hit the Lights, Four Years Strong, Adept, A Day to Remember to Red hot chilli peppers or The White stripes.
And any rappers similar to:
Wiz khalifa, mac miller, yelawolf, drake etc
Any artists would be good really, I mean I like music from Asking Alexandria to 50 cent so anything really thanks :D
5 AnswersOther - Music9 years agoWhy do creationists have such a narrow minded view on scientific academia?
Why do a majority of creationists see the scientific observation of evolution between organisms as such a disgustingly evil practice? Don't blame humans for discovering and verifying a solid fact that organisms evolve, blame your God for tricking us into believing that organisms evolve.
I see the faith aspect of your argument, but if it's a choice between the biblical story of creation which is based solely in faith, or the hard fact of evolution, the latter is a lot more logical regardless of your religion.
15 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoEnthalpy and free radicals questions.?
The question is:
The reaction between chlorine and methane free radicals can occur in two ways,
CH4 + Cl. ------> CH3CL + H.
CH4 + Cl. ------> CH3. + HCL
(Notice the dots by the way)
And the question is to work out the enthalpy of the two equations, which I can do but I want to know what the dots are or the radicals represent? Like what is Cl. and H. meant to mean?

22 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoIs an object's weight it's net force?
For example, a car has a net force of 280N. 400N forward and 120N drag.
Is the car's weight 400+120N? Or 280N?
I ask this because I need to use it in the F = M x A equation.
280 = (280 x 9.81) x a.
Is this correct? Am I using the correct weight?
2 AnswersPhysics10 years agoPhysics F=MA question. 10 points.?
A car engine provides a constant forward force. When starting from rest, the acceleration of the car when unloaded is A. The mass of the car increases by 50% when fully loaded. Determine the acceleration of this fully laden car in terms of the acceleration A when it starts from rest.
I know F = m x a.
F = 1.5m x A is that right? I don't get it.

Show that the braking distance of the car in metres, initially travelling at speed v is:
Braking distance is approx 0.073v²
Anyone got any help or tips? Or maybe a place to start like a formula or something?
