What is the American dream and what was it to Puritans?

    The American Dream is having a good job that pays enough for you to buy a home, one or two vehicles, raise children and send them to college, all while living comfortably.

    Puritans didn't have an "American" Dream because the founding of America was many years away. But they did have a dream for living in the "New World". That was being able to live without the religious persecution that was rampant in Europe.

    The American Dream to the Puritans was to escape religious persecution by others so they could practice religious persecution of their own.
