Has anyone ever bought a bike from kmart before?

Hi i am 14 years old and i saw this bike at kmart and i really loved it and i am wondering if anyone who has ever bought kmart bikes are good or bad, i only want the bike for sunday strolls so nothing serious like racing or anything, and how much are the assemblies for the bike?

K-Mart, Wally World or Target...makes no difference. They all sell "Bicycle Shaped Objects" http://www.google.com/search?q=Bicycle+Shaped+Obje... not real bicycles. Assembly (???) if you want to call it that, is free from the store. They are slapped together in about 15 minutes by some minimum wage "associate" and not a professional or certified bicycle mechanic.

I would highly urge you to visit a REAL bicycle shop & extensively test ride a few before wasting your money at a discount store - where so-called bicycles are sold in the TOY Dept.!!! Toy bike or real bike? It's your money & your choice.

Ask K-mart if you can take that bike out of the store for a lengthy test ride before handing over the money. They'll look at you really funny & say no. Now go to an actual bicycle shop. Sure...they may want some kind of collateral, such as holding onto Mom or Dad's credit card until you get back from the test ride. But you can test ride as many as you wish.

As already pointed out, discount store bikes are not assembled, merely slapped together haphazardly. Those from a bike shop are assembled & tuned-up by a mechanic who knows bikes backwards & forwards. Someone who makes this his/her profession. Better quality at an actual bike shop. Better service. And for sure better sales help.

Department store bikes LOOK good. Invariably, most of these bikes are plagued with multitude of problems.

I had a friend who decided to buy such a bike. Now I know how to fix bikes.

But the brakes never could be adjusted, and neither the rear derailleur. Or it would not

stay in adjustment. Then the handlebars got loose. No problem. Then the freewheel froze, which I replaced. Then the pedal came off. Then the pedal broke off.

    I gave up.

Not in the last 15 years or so. A friend of mine got one last summer. Finally I bought her a new front wheel, double wall aluminum, rim tape and inner tube because I felt sorry to see her go with that rusty crooked thing. She also needs new calipers and other things to be able to ride.

If you buy one yo will be sorry.
