question for those in states where you can legally sell your food goods?
Our govenor in CA is getting ready to sign bill AB1616 in the next week or so. It will make it legal to sell certian foods from home kitchens. It's fairly limited to baked goods, jams, jellies, chutneys, dried mixes and spices but a creative cook can make it work.
My question to those of you whose states have similar laws and are selling things from your home kitchen.
How brutal is the inspection prior to getting your license? I know you can't have pets or small children around while you are making your goods and I'm sure I will have to go to a food handling class which I am fine with. I would like to hear some success stories or maybe not.
Thanks

Here in Michigan, The cottage law exempt you from licensing and Inspection. But you do have to obtain a tax ID number and you have contact Dept.of Treasury of your state for a list of foods that are Taxable. and they have to be labeled, that they are home made and identify all ingredients that are in the products. Hope this helps you out.
