Is a centimeter over the oil fill line too much oil?

I just changed the oil and filter on my 1999 Toyota Camry 2.2L and accidentally over-filled it. The dipstick shows about one centimeter above the fill line. Do I need to drain some out?

too much oil can make weird things happen in the engine. crawl under there and loosen up the oil pan bolt enough to let a little oil out. just a quick stream out and tighten back up. that way there are no worries.

I wouldnt worry about it myself. That little bit wont do anything negative to the vehicle. Also some will go into the oil filter, after a few drives it will probably be right at the full mark.

And kudos for changing your own oil!

No big deal, a centimeter of overfill won't do much damage, if you notice a check engine light and/or smoking then is the time to remove some, but most engines aren't that picky or precise.

    Best of luck.
