¿Como conecto una laptop con un minitor, con un cable unicamente?

Estoy conectando el cable del monitor a la laptop pero no hay imagenes en dicho monitor, ya lo prendì,tal vez debo de configurar o que me recomiendan hacer...

    con un cable DMDI... YA YA... AL MENOS QUE SEA UNA LAP TOP DE LAS VIEJITAS Y NO TENGA ESA CONECCION..

    primero conectas el cable vga (el cable de video del monitor) a la laptop y al monitor. luego en la laptop digitas FIN F5 o FIN F4, dependiendo de la marca del portatil.
