what happens if my unpaid medical bills go to collection?

When I took a semester off of college, I did not know my school medical insurance would be deactivated till I started again, not only that, a pre-existing condition would settle for 6 months. Unfortunately inbetween that six months I ended up in the ER and now I have 4-5 bills that I have to pay from my own pocket because they were all denied. Since I work a minimum wage job and am also a working college student i've started to set up payment programs with each bill but I still won't be able to pay every payments every month and I am starting to contemplate to let all the bills go to the collection agency but would like to know what exactly are the consequences and if anyone can share an advice on how to approach this

It's no different than any other unpaid debt you owe. They sue you in court and garnish your wages.

Do NOT just let the bills go to the collection agency! Trust me, this will wind you in a so much more debt. Unfortunetly, it seems that you may need to take off some time from college until you can get back on your feet again! Don't worry, a lot of people go back to school after a few years! Don't take out too many loans that you know will be unrepayable!

Adequate, first it depends upon the state. Some states say everything in marriage is authorized custody between the both of you, ussualy delt with in divorces. 2nd most the time the hospitals collections are trying's and try's to contact you to make arangments to pay your monthly due. Good this could be by means of simply mail too, then after a certian period of time they ship this to collections. Collections harrasess the hell out of you to determine how you will and when you are going to pay, ussually after 90-one hundred twenty days after the sanatorium. Well the hosiptal stories your present fee popularity to the crediting agencys, they ding your ranking, and after a hundred and twenty days it's just about if not the identical as claiming bankrucptcy, as it appears. Well if the gathering agency can't get ahold of sufficient money in a certian sets, they take motion and supena you. Then right here comes the courts, they decide upon the evidence, the decide asks why you haven't been paying. And absolutely finds the prosecutor (collections a holes) in the correct and they win, they then look at your assests, your savings, your individual money owed with a legal professional(incidentally your being charged for court docket fees, and collection costs) and then in the end that they arrive and take them, up too the amount agreed with the aid of the judges action. Does that help? And by the way it practically makes it unattainable for you to get a tight loan. Like if in case you have intrest rates to your loans of like %6 expect to be denied just a little and recive intrest rates of upwards %15. So ya that ding to your credit score score influences alot, now not just that $three,000 greenback bill. I wish you the first-class of success. Truthfully, because they are ruthless, and attack the terrible and weak.

I was in a situation similar to this except my thousands of dollars in bills did go to collections. Call the hospital that your bills are thru (the same number you called to set up payments) and ask them to send you paper work to have your bills written off. They will freeze your bills so they won't go to collections or occur interest while your paper work is being processed. I did this and also included a letter explaining my situation and they ended up writing off all but $300.

They will call you on the telephone frequently.

Your credit will be ruined. For seven to 7 1/2 years, you won't be able to get a car loan, get a home loan/mortgage, get any other type of loan, get a credit card, finance a car, rent most apartments, or get some jobs.

You will be sued, in court.

And, you will still have to pay the bills, eventually.
