Isn't evolution a fact?
I was sitting in class with a couple of friends and someone brought up evolution. One said that he didn't believe in it, and then the other two agreed. I stayed quiet. Isn't evolution a dead set fact? I live in the bible belt but still... How can somebody not believe in evolution?

Evolution happened, it is a fact. The theory itself is not about whether it happened, but how it happened. This is why it is the theory of evolution by natural selection. In science, theory refers to something that over time and tests has not been refuted and is, therefore, not likely to ever be refuted.

The undeniable fact that you're pronouncing to not use a 'idea' suggests that you're immediately became off by way of the thought of a systematic idea and deeply misunderstand what that suggests. There are literal mountains of proof to help evolution however naturally you're seeing it via the lens of faith that's additionally blinding you. If you desire conclusive proof of evolution simply take a seem on the flu virus to your solutions. Every 12 months is mutates and adapts and hence calls for us to check out and be forward of the 'evolution'. You stated puppies that hint again to the wolf that's a different sort of evolution that's convenient to look the dramatic alterations that may occur in a brief interval of time. Imagine the vigour of difference that may occur over thousands or hundred of thousands of years. THAT is evolution. Evolution is a truth and even as there are main points that stay uncertain it does now not disprove it. Nor is evolution there to discredit the bible. There are approach too many matters approximately the bible that discredits itself that does not require evolution to be concerned. Your eyes are open however your brain is closed and none of this may make any experience till you give up seeing what you desire to look and notice what's obvious.

It's sort of a fact and a theory at the same time. That evolution happens is a fact - we have extensive evidence, we've seen it happen in nature, and we've seen it happen in the lab. While we can't say that *anything* is a 100% irrevocable fact, the odds of overturning evolution are on par with the odds of overturning gravity or the heliocentric model of the solar system. The "theory" part of "the theory of evolution" is what explains how evolution works. That part, like anything in science, is constantly being revised and updated as we uncover more evidence, so that it remains the best explanation that we have at any given point in time.
That said, lots of people still reject it. Most of them reject it for religious reasons, but there are plenty of others that reject it on other grounds. Sometimes it's a simple "I don't believe in it"... and that's fine, since everyone is entitled to their beliefs. The problem is that most of them base this decision on ignorance, or a flawed understanding of evolution - and they try to push that ignorance on others. It's one thing for a person to say that they don't believe in evolution, but it's a completely different thing to say that made-up evidence refutes it, and to try and convince everyone that that made-up evidence is actually true. If you want an example, just check out the link below. It's a list of every argument you'll likely ever hear against evolution... and why those arguments are wrong. Yet, despite being thoroughly debunked, you'll keep hearing those points over and over and over.
Sometimes it's best to keep your mouth shut. Unless you're willing to get into a protracted discussion, (and more importantly, unless your friends are of a mindset that would allow them to have an actual discussion instead of just digging deeper and throwing more ignorance at you), it's usually just not worth it.

Yes it is a fact as everyone else that has responded agrees with :)
A book you should read that concentrates on providing the facts for evolution is "The Greatest Show on Earth" by Richard Dawkins. After reading this book it will explain in detail exactly what evolution is and provides many examples in different fields of science (geology, anthropology, zoology) why evolution has been proven.

evolution is as close to a fact as one can get and still be a theory. not to disparage these people but you do live in the bible belt,as you've said. there are some people that believe that the bible is the only true version of the origin of life on earth. what they forget is that 1)every religion has its own genesis myth and the bible is just one of many 2)there are facts that 'disprove' the bible's version of the genesis of life and 3)science isn't a menu of facts that one picks and chooses which facts to believe.

Theoritically, it isn't. Because science and religion does not simply blend into one. For example, God created human like His from, but scientist discovered old bones of an old human that look like grown apes, how do you explain that? In fact, you can't just make them mixed up. You need more knowledge, and one more example, how does Adam live up to around 930 years old? How the hell is that possible? Well, only God knows.

Like the other guy said, it's 'basically' fact. If you were to call it fact to a biology teacher they'd have a fit because it's a theory, not a fact. Though this is where religious people get their argument of "It's a theory, not a fact!". Yes, it is a theory. But so is gravity. And chemistry, which we all know is pretty much... a fact.

"Isn't evolution a fact?"
If it is an actual fact, one wouldn't have to believe it...
"How can somebody not believe in evolution?"
One can believe in something else...
