Roulette tips, anyone?

I love roulette, but play mostly on line at no cost to get a feel for it. the times I've actually played I do really well for awhile and then tank. As a game of chance, is there anything I can do to improve my game? I do watch the table closely for odds/ evens and which field is most often prevalent, but any help is appreciated.

Update:

So far I've won doing exactly what the first two answers told me not to do. I think answers from more educated players are in order.

    "So far I've won....."

You haven't won because of anything you've done "right". You've won because of only ONE reason - YOU GOT LUCKY!!! That's it.

Someone told you that past results don't help you predict future numbers. If you don't believe that, then you are doomed to find out the truth the hard way. He is 100% right.

You are new to roulette, so you still have that "I think I can beat this game" feeling inside you. Join the club of MILLIONS of people that have come before you. They all tried, and they all failed.

NOBODY in the history of the planet has ever developed any betting system that is capable of beating roulette. YOU will not be the first.

Roulette is the perfect game. Virtually each and every bet has exactly the same House Edge. Over time, for every $10 you wager, you should expect to lose about 53 cents. Of course you can't lose 53 cents on any single bet. I'm talking about over time.

There is NO WAY around this. Again - if you try, you will ultimately fail. You are young, so probably don't believe the more educated players. If that's the case, then you'll just have to learn the hard way.

If ANYONE tells you they can improve your chances on roulette even the tiniest amount, or if they tell you they have a way you can beat the game, they are either LYING to you so they can sell you their crap system, or they are a complete idiot, or both.

Try to beat roulette at your peril.

You actually don't need a strategy to win a roulette it is also classified as a game of chance so you are winning depending on how lucky you are, roulette is never gonna be like poker and blackjack wherein you have a control of the way your game should be played.

Out of all the casino games, roulette generally has the worst house edge (bad for you, good for the casino).

It's a fallacy to assume that previous spins are an indication of future results. Modern roulette wheels virtually guarantee this.

Roulette is the game where the house has the maximum edge over the player. It is just luck base game. There is no fix strategy that will give you the sure success.

"I do watch the table closely for odds/ evens and which field is most often prevalent," - stop doing that. Useless. Each spin is 100% independent, regardless of what patterns you think you see.

Bet individual numbers. When you get up, walk away.
