How to air dry clothes without stiffness?

I have no washer or dryer so I'm going to start hand washing and air dying my clothes. We used to do that when I was little and I remember the clothes would be stiff after air drying. How can I make them soft?

Add liquid fabric softener to the load.

First of all, don't use too much soap, and rinse as well as you can. Extra soap drying in the fibers is usually what makes clothes stiff. Agitation is what gets actually removes the dirt from clothes--the detergent helps keep it form settling back into the cloth. A few tablespoons of white vinegar added to the rinse water helps too.

Amanda they should,nt be stiff if you rinse them

And then rinse again in softener and wring out as best you can

They only become stiff if you air dry in very hot sunlight

Iron them after they are dry.
