Medication costs exceed ins. and ability to pay. Where to go for $$ help?

Disabled & diagnosed with 2 rare & terminal diseases, medical and medication costs mount faster than medical insurance covers. On a ;private disability plan, and not eligible for Medicaid. Where can we turn to for funding, of medications, equipment, and expensive treatment - beyond what medical insurance pays?

Update:

Rare diseases require rare and expensive medications - not eligible for cost breaks or generic.

Private disability plan excludes SS Disability eligibility

Income disqualifies Medicaid.

Age is too young for Medicare

Income is inadequate to meet bills...........food comes from food banks

Unable to purchase or rent medical equipment.

Update 2:

People with health insurance are disqualified to participate in discount/free drug programs.

    1. Get generic medications

    2. Ask doctor for samples

    3. Contact manufacturer and ask about discount program

    4. Get prescription filled at Walmart or Costco

If your insurance wont cover it, you have to get a diffrent insurance or wait until 2014 when the Obama health reform lifts the cap on the care.

some drug mfgrs. provide assistance with proof of need for medications that are theirs. some equipment can be borrowed from organizations that deal with certain illnesses, like cancer..you can get hosp. beds, all the sick room equipment is usually available , as for the expensive treatments, i'm not sure just what there is if you do not qualify for medicaid. seems strange that you don't qualify. if it's a matter of assets, then spenddown is your only recourse.

call your County Social Services Office and see if they participate in a group prescription discount plan.

Go to the Social Security Website, apply for SSDI and that includes Medicare.
