Accidentally left my digital clock right next to a hot lightbulb?

Like the bulb was touching the screen. When I came back, the inside clock's screen was partially covered with this black liquid. When I pressed on the screen, the black liquid dispersed to the edges of the screen. Is this stuff toxic?

It wasn't covered in it , it is just there inside. That is the liquid crystal that makes LCDs work..

In addition to being capable of being electrically activated to darken or lighten, heat can also affect LCD operation. What you encountered was the heat changing its state.
