iphone says connect to itunes but won't connect recovery mode doesn't work?
I have tried DFU recovery mode and the other recovery mode. I've tried it about 10 times. I also tried the iTunes directions for uninstalling every trace of Apple software ever installed on my computer and then reinstalling it. Still doesn't work. My Computer control panel does not recognize the device. I have tried using different iPhone cords and the cord isn't the problem. Whenever I connect/disconnect or put it into "recovery" mode, the computer makes a dinging sound like something's been connected or disconnected. But it doesn't show up in My Computer and iTunes doesn't recognize it. HELP!!!
I was able to connect the phone yesterday morning. It was updating to the new iOS6 software and the computer said an unexpected error occurred. And that's when it stopped working.

If you have reinstalled iTunes and tried recovery mode on the phone and its still not working on your PC, try another PC with itunes installed. If the phone connects to the other PC and it detects the iphone and gives you the option to recover, the issue is with the hardware/software on your PC. If the phone still isnt detected on the other PC, then the phone itself has an issue.
Edit after reading your update- typically the updates for any iOS device (pad, pod, or phone) go through without a hitch. If you put it into recovery mode and it still goes thru and gives an unexpected error, I would almost guarantee its a hardware problem.
You can also go into the settings menu in the gneral section and use the Factory Reset there. Make sure you use the "Erase All Content and Settings" option and try again, but im still leaning towards hardware issue.
