I have a situation and need an answer right away ...?

I'm in the process of downloading a service pack-1a for my 1.2 GHz Windows XP computer. I have been in the process of downloading this thing since 11:30 AM this morning and the screen says that it is still downloading (cursor and hour-glass). However, the load bar hasn't moved all day. I don't know if anything is actually happening or not. If it's downloading and I interrupt it, that might damage my computer. Does anyone have any idea how long, on average, it takes to download a Window's service pack-1a for a XP-home version computer?

Many thanks in advance

Update:

Now I am really confused. I just end the download for serivice pack 1a, per your suggestion. The next thing I know is HP windows is stepping me through reloading my old version of AOL 6.0. I had AOL 9.1 operating on my computer before I started the SP-1a download. I just signed on AOL with the 9.1 version so it's still good. I don't know if I got the service pack yet. Not long agoI had to reload my orignal OS and it has been one nightmare right after another.

Update 2:

This is the second or third day and Windows is still downloading upgrades to my computer. I believe that they are installing service pack-1, 2, and 3, plus their associated support programs. This is very strange, and I have never had this kind of thing happen before, but I guess that service packs 1, 2, and 3 are massive programs. Anyway, I am crossing my fingers and hoping for a good outcome.

Thanks very much for your input and suggestion.

Best regards

Stop the download, go back and start the download again. It has frozen and nothing is happening.
