Neighbor is building deck, did not notify us as per HOA rules, am I right to be offended?
We live in a HOA townhome where you have to get adjacent neighbor to "sign off" on outside building like decks/fences. I do not understand why neighbor did not get us to sign and we are her NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR?. So of course when the builders brought the materials, they placed them on my lawn (no worries, I complained and it was moved in hour).
I am just confused as to why she did not tell us (4 neighbors have to sign docs). I am always friendly and wave, I even alerted her when door was left open for whole week (they went on vacay and left their door open!)
We are a mixed couple, and are always home (HOA said maybe you weren't home?) are is it the race thing?
Moreover, I don't know how to react to her when I see her again. I mean should I speak or just keep moving? This has really caused me to be upset as we are friendly people.
Anyway, I am glad I complained and had them move all the wood and nails off my lawn, which I thought was very rude. But what nerve right?

Hi I agree the HOA proably will make them tear it down. I know this wont be a popular answer BUT I think its a very sad day in America where a person can not put a deck on his house with out a neighbor complaining. Yes neighbors should respect property bounderies and try to help each other out. Sounds like the materials left on your yard were left by the lumber company, not the neighbor trying to be a dificult person. This sounds like one of the HOA neighbor hoods where you get in trouble for even flying the American flag. I dont think race has anything to do with this.

Sounds like your ego was the only thing hurt here, remember this is the USA and him having a deck shouldn't'nt bother you(except u probably envy it and want 1) .They need room to build so they probably put the material on your side to work,(where will You put your stuff when its time 4 your projects?) Real friendly people wouldnt be upset by this and would probably still help even w/o thier Royal approval. If complaining and being glad about making them do more work is friendly then I think I know why they avoided talking to you. If your always home you must not have alot of friends to do things with.

I live in a condo building & have experience with townhome associations too. Your neighbor certainly should have gotten approval from you & other neighbors if necessary. Many associations also limit hours when work can be done.
I know this since I helped my cousin dig a fish pond outside his patio, his neighbors were less then pleased.
It drives me crazy when you drive by a townhome community & its all uniform except the one home that has all sorts of crap outside or added on.
Don't get me started about the woman in my building that tried to hang a neon beer sign in the hallway outside her door & ran an extension cord under her door

Why do you think race is an issue? Either you neighbors followed the rules or they did not. If they did not then file a complaint with your HOA. It is not about you it is about following community rules.

what the hell does being a mixed race couple or just plain race have to do with anything? if you feel that the rules have not been followed, file a formal complaint with your hoa and force them to abide by their own rules.

Your whole rules thing of condos townhomes its just strange. when i buy MY HOME WITH MY MONEY who do you twits think you are telling me i need your approval for a deck or a fish pond or patio for my home. what am i doing taking food from your fat faces. its because of what you do with your power tripping laws and rules which is what makes america once known as the free. its got the true ring of a hitler dictatorship. like i said mighty damn funny you have a zero vested interest in my home and dwelling but you think you have some rite to rule over it? one would think that with all the dead you have buried one would come to learn real quickly that way of yours is wrong.
