Method for measuring only live bacteria in liquid?
I'm doing a science project comparing different methods of water purification such as chlorination, and I need a method that will only measure the live bacteria in water. Is there a method or is there a way to compare the effectiveness of the methods while counting all the bacteria in the water?

Let's see, a dead bacterium looks like a live one, so microscopy and absorbance/transmittance of light are out.
You could do metabolic assays. Hm. But then bacteria that used the metabolites would increase, maybe giving you a skewed result.
Okay.
Plate out serial dilutions of your water onto petri dishes containing complete solid medium. Then you can count the colonies formed. Your answer will be in cfu/ml (colony forming units per milliliter) which you can mathematically adjust to get cfu/liter. Each colony forming unit represents a single bacterium.

is this the two.5 gallon Mini-Bow? if so, it particularly is what I definitely have for my betta. besides the undeniable fact that, i've got considering switched the Whisper clear out for the Deco artwork Nano clear out, which frees up an surprising style of area. I definitely have my temp at 80 two stages. He has a tendency to sleep once I turn off the gentle on one in all tyhe flowers. If I by possibility do no longer turn it off, he's often in his clubhouse drowsing.
