Are these punctuated correctly? SHORT?

However, by chance, the fire that the boys set is so big that a passing ship sees the smoke and rescues the remaining boys; before Roger can fully come into power and before Jack can kill Ralph.

This is how I think it should be punctuated:

However, by chance, the fire that the boys set is so big that a passing ship sees the smoke and rescues the remaining boys before Roger can fully come into power, and before Jack can kill Ralph.

This is little solace for Ralph, who yells to restart the fire and shows his “chieftainship” (Golding 73) for a bit longer.

However, by chance, the fire that the boys set is so big that a passing ship sees the smoke and rescues the remaining boys before Roger can fully come into power… and before Jack can kill Ralph.

This is little solace for Ralph, who yells to restart the fire and shows his “chieftainship” (Golding 73) for a bit longer.
