What kind of discount should I ask for when paying "cash" for a car instead of financing it?
I'm going to go buy a used car this weekend from a dealership. I'll be paying with a check, not financing. I already know that the dealership will accept a check because I verified that. So, when negotiating, how much of a discount should I ask for because I'm paying "cash" instead of financing?

only benefit of cash is they know you are a serious buyer.
You wont get much, if any discount from it.
Dealers really dont care one way or the other. They almost always make money on financing they do but the front end of the deal has to stand on its own.
So dont expect a discount either way.
That said, the first thing a salesman does when you get there is to prequalify you, that is, make sure you CAN buy. (Lots of customers cannot)
Discounts have more to do with your knoweldge of car values & your negotiating skills than how you pay.

If the vehicle isn't paid for, ie - financed, then the fee is going to the lien holder. The coverage has to get the call (pay off the lien holder) with the intention to promote the vehicle parts, salvage or scrap. there is also the very reality the vehicle is safe practices on the private loan and without a vehicle the private loan status is changed. Now, if the coverage does no longer conceal the finished volume owed to cover the payoff, which will be an difficulty you received't like as they'll come once you for the version. till you've an coverage coverage to cover the version, like hollow coverage, then convinced, you're in for some funds and no vehicle.

There is no incentive for the dealer to give you a large discount because you're paying cash. They are making less money on the deal because you aren't financing it through them.

Why would cash make a difference?? Why do people think that?? I don't understand...
If you finance, the bank writes us a check (BETTER than YOUR check)...
You get no advantage at all paying cash. Why would you? Stupid question.

you won't get a discount, they don;t care if you pay cash the dealer gets a kickback from loan company when you finance so they would really like if you take a loan out.

The saleperson actually gets a sale commission from the bank if they refer a loan to them.
