Well what do you do to your hair? Do you color it, is it natural, is it relaxed, do you use heat in it? How is your diet?

It really all depends on these things and others. Try protein treatments. It'll help a whole lot with this.

9 inches in 9 months seems a bit much. Most people get about 1/2 an inch per month.

The best way to keep hair from getting brittle is to condition it every day, and wash it every other day. Doing a deep conditioning treatment once a week is also a good idea. Make sure the products you use are sulfate and paraben free. Such chemicals are drying to your hair and bad for your health. People of African descent tend to have dryer hair so conditioning and keeping moisture in the hair strand is very important to prevent breakage.

You also have to make sure you're growing hair with good elasticity. That means you'll have to be sure you're getting all the vitamins you need in your diet and that you are eating lots of good fats (from vegetable oils, fish and poultry) and plenty of protein. Avoiding highly processed junk food will also improve the quality or your hair. Such a diet is also good for the skin as well. For example, if you've been eating cereal or pancakes for breakfast, you might want to swap that for scrambled eggs with fried extra firm tofu or chicken/turkey pieces all with shredded cheese on top.

Damage to the hair should also be avoided. Use heat from hair dryers and straighteners as little as possible. Keeping your hair out of the sun will keep in in better condition. There are hair products that contain a UV shield if you need to go into the sun for along time without a hat or scarf.

Best of luck with your hair!

Hair grows only 1/2 inch per month. Ive had several african american women clients who tell me that their hair is a little more fragile and a little harder to grow out. Im pretty sure it is because your hair is curlier, and curly hair gets a little more dry than straight hair.

If your hair is dry, do moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, and maybe even moisturizing mask.

    Do protein hair treatments.

Try to stay away from chemical treatments such as color treatments, and chemical hair retexturizing services such as perms or relaxers and even those brazillian blowouts and what not.

If you are doing any heat styling, make sure you are using a heat protectant before you do said heat styling (whether it is flat ironing, curling iron, or blow drying)

You really cant make hair grow 9" in 9 months.
