A few question on the basset hound?
....just got mine this morning. She's eight weeks old. And yes she has that musky, funky dog smell and I am wondering if bathing her at least twice a week would be okay. And how much should a basset weigh in proportion to its size? I'd like to hear how you guys potty train your bassets. Would it be possible to train her to poop only in designated areas around the yard? Thanks.

As a former Basset Hound owner, I wouldn't suggest giving the puppy a bath twice a week. This will dry out her skin and make it irritated. Basset Hounds have their own "smell / scent". Potty training is different for each dog, but I would suggest taking her out once an hour or two. Take her out on a walk around the block or neighborhood. This will get her familiar of her surroundings. Then introduce her to your home. She will be tired, but she will be able to acclimate herself to the smells and such. Hope some of this is helpful for you. Best of luck to you and your new puppy.

MamaBas is the expert on bassets around here... and she will know all about how easy or hard it is to train them, plus anything else you need to know about them. Hopefully she'll see this, if not I'll send the link.
