Should I give up being a vegetarian?

I've been vegetarian for about a year now as a way to be healthier. I exercise 3-4 times a week and I am very conscious of what I eat (typically I will eat about 1200 calories a day or so). My only issue is that I am not really losing any weight, so if i'm not losing any weight shouldnt i just go back to eating lean meat?

What do you think?

Thanks!

I bet if you did a blood test, your insides look healthier (I bet your cholesterol has gone down a lot). Now, let me suggest a trick, if you eat 1200 calories every single day your metabolism will slow down. Instead, vary your calories from day to day. Eat 1500 one day, 1200 the next, then 1100, then 1400, as so on (even a couple of times a month go up to 2000, especially on very active days). Mix it up a bit and let your body keep guessing.

Add also exercises in fresh air like hiking or biking, doing the same stuff in the gym all the time will cause your body to get used to the movements and stop burning as much calories. Mixing it up will increase how much you burn when you move.

Then, replace some of the carbs like pasta, potatoes, and rice with high fiber vegetables like collards, kale, turnip greens, lima beans, mushrooms, black-eyed peas, green peas, peppers, rhubarb, and spinach. You should also add high fiber fruits like apples and avocado. Try that for a couple of months and see if it works. Lastly, tone down how much milk you drink and cheese you eat (or completely get rid of milk and cheese from your diet). There is very little good in dairy (if anything)...

You need 1000mg of calcium a day... I put *** next to good alternate sources of calcium.

Food Amount of Calcium in milligrams (mg)

    1 cup of milk 300

    6 oz of yogurt 350

1 oz hard cheese (cheddar) 240

    2 slices processed cheese 265

    1/4 cup cottage cheese 120

1/2 cup soft serve frozen yogurt 100

    1/2 cup ice cream 85

    1/2 cup tofu 258***

1/2 cup pinto beans or chick peas 40

    1/4 cup almonds 95

    1 Tbsp almond butter 43

    1 Tbsp sesame seeds 90

    1 Tbsp Tahini 63

1/4 cup Brazil nuts or hazelnuts 55

    1/2 cup bok choy 75

    1 cup kale 94

    1 cup broccoli 178***

    1 cup celery 54

1 cup cooked green beans 58

1 cup cooked butternut squash 84

1 cup cooked sweet potato 70

    1 medium naval orange 56

    2/3 cup raisins 53

    10 medium dried figs 269***

    1 cup calcium-fortified orange juice 300***

1 cup enriched soy milk 300***

1 cup enriched rice milk 300***

There's not really any point for you to stop being vegetarian. Although you may not have lost any weight, chances are you are much healthier. Your risk of cancer, heart disease and other diseases will probably be lower. You most likely have better blood pressure, better cholesterol and are just overall healthier on the inside.

It is just so much easier to get all of the vitamins and minerals and stuff in your diet without having to try and work eating flesh in the mixture. Meat is very high calorie, very high fat, while being very low nutrient dense. Most plant foods are much lower calorie and much more nutrient dense. So if you are only eating 1200 calories or so per day I suggest you not eat any meat as it will be much harder for you to be healthy.

Like someone else said, don't really count calories at all, just eat healthy, low calorie foods, such as vegetables, fruits, and other plant foods as much as you feel like. Cut out unhealthy fats and processed food. The weight loss will simply follow.

Eating meat or not eating meat has nothing to do with weight loss. These people who try being vegetarian as a weight loss plan are always disappointed. If you are eating so little and exercising so much and you're not happy with your weight you probably have some body image problems. You also seem to equate being healthier with being skinnier, which is wrong unless you are actually medically overweight.

People are so stupid sometimes they think that if there a vegetarian they will lose weight my aunt and grandmother did that they look no different you are suppose to eat everything to balance yes go eat meat eat vegetables eat anything but don't get a pound of meat then a bean or a stack of asparagus and a hot dog you have three spots on a plate the meat the vegetable and the carb when you have a sandwich have te bread some cheese maybe some turkey or ham an lettuce or tomato or something so bread a carb lettuce a vegetable and meat a meat I eat like that and I in a week I went from 214 to 205 in pounds so even foods and everything don't just eat salads and toast eat meat too and the people who are against eating animals understand that it is nature the people eat the cow the cow eat the grass the dog eat the turkey the turkey eat the insects so eat meat to balance and eat meat because it is natural
