  • Vegetarian to vegan transition help?

I'm what I consider a vegan under construction, although I've been vegetarian for years and years. The idea to become vegan came about when a colleague asked if I have even considered it and encouraged me to try it for at least two weeks. Those two weeks became three months before I went back to vegetarian. I was happy that I could hang in there but I began to miss some of my favorites. Now, I feel a little guilty going back vegetarian and I've kept a lot of my vegan foods in my diet. Should I continue what I'm doing now? Has anyone else had this problem? How should I approach going back vegan? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks!

  • If i start running on a restricted diet will I gain weight?

I know it sounds a bit silly, but let me clarify. I heard that when you diet and exercise sometimes your body goes into starvation mode. But, with dieting alone I have hit a plateau and want to push through it by adding exercise, will this cause me to gain weight if i do so?

    Thanks!

  • What is the average calorie intake for lunch?

I'm on a restricted calorie diet, well just starting, and I am interested to know what is the average amount of calories a person eats for lunch? Right now I have a small salad, baby cut carrots, a mini cucumber and protein shake, and coffee which according to calorie counter is 250 calories

  • What's your favorite end of the week song?

Random question but I know there has to be that one song that you hear on the radio or sing in the mirror as a TGIF type of anthem lol. What's yours?

Mine: right now it's blow me one last kiss by Pink

  • A question for running enthusiasts?

Ok so my body doesn't do too well with certain exercises, I tend to gain a lot more weight when I weight train or do lots of cardio. At first I thought it was muscle but found out it wasn't. I am pretty strict with my diet and careful about what I eat,I'm also vegan. I love running but I haven't done it in awhile. Do you think it will cause my weight to skyrocket again?

    Thanks!

  • What would be a good time to stop eating for the night while on a diet?

Unfortunately I gained a little weight after detouring from my normal diet plan, but I am back on track and trying to make a few changes, starting with the time to "close up shop" for the night until breakfast. I've seen a lot of sources that say 7pm but that's kinda hard since I get off of work at 6. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

  • The incredible shrinking waistline, is this normal?

So I started strength training a week ago, about 3-4 times a week. I was very concerned because my weight has slowly been increasing on the scale but today I measured me waistline and its down about an inch and a half. Is this normal, and should I continue to strength train or should I kinda stick to dieting and doing crunches. I have a pretty good diet: I'm vegetarian, no eating after 8:30 veggies and fruits most of the day and only snack food at dinner. I also have a protein drink for lunch with salad and veggies.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

  • Why are my clothes fitting tighter with strength training?

So I've just completed a week of strength training and so far I don't like the results, will this change as I keep going or will it not change at all?

I've gotten more headaches, my clothes are fitting tighter, and the scale says I've gained weight. On the positive side my appetite is a little more suppressed and my abs are a little sore (I'm guessing it means I did something right, maybe?)

But am I doing something wrong? Or is this normal?

    Thanks!

  • What discomfort should I expect with new ab workouts?

After seeing a personal trainer I was told that I should think about strength and resistance training. So I've been doing the recommended exercises and researching others that I should try. I have a four week plan that switches up the exercises so it always keeps my body guessing. Anyway, today was my rest day and I noticed how stiff and weird my abdomen felt. Is it supposed to feel weird or did I over do it? Just a bit of history: I use a kettlebell and do about 3-4 sets of 12 reps. I'm trying to lose about 10 pounds, I'm a vegetarian and have a pretty strict eating schedule.

Any help would be great, thanks!

  • why wont my jeans fit after i've started exercising?

Before i started exercising, i was on a pretty healthy vegetarian diet, 1500 calories with the occasional snacking on popchips and I maintained 128 lbs. I wanted to get to 125 so i started exercising (run/walk intervals, strength training, elliptical) to get the last three pounds off. Before exercising I could wear my size 4 jeans comfortably. Now that i have started exercising, they hardly fit me, i am kind of restricted to yoga pants. My diet has honestly gotten better since i started exercising, i dont snack as often, only at dinner i eat a serving of pop chips. What could i be doing wrong?

    Thanks

  • How can I fix a weight loss plateau?

I've tried lots of different things to lose weight and after losing 10 lbs I've seem to hit a plateau.

    I eat about 1200-1500 calories, I'm vegan, and I exercise 3-5 days a week

I'm 5'3 and 130lbs, and even though its not overweight, I would like to be between 123-125.

    Any advice?

  • How can I go back to being vegetarian without getting sick?

I've been vegetarian for over two years and I decided to try going vegan for two weeks. I really liked the change and the adjustment wasn't bad but now that the two weeks are over, I tried to go back to eating eggs and soy milk but I got the worse stomach pains and I felt nauseous.

How can I get back to eating my dairy favorites without making my stomach upset?

    Thanks!

  • How long should a protein rich diet continue?

For a few months now I have been replacing lunch with a protein meal replacement along with some fruit and crackers so I don't starve by the end of the work day. If I'm really busy I will snack on a few strawberries or something so I don't get dizzy. And for dinner I would have, for example, a vegetable soup, salad, and snack before 8 pm. After that I would drink only water and green tea. My weight seems to be managing ok but I am trying to lose these last stubborn 10 pounds. I was suggested that I try to drink a protein shake for dinner as well to see if things change. I've tried it for a few days but I kinda miss eating real food ( i mean seriously the only real thing I eat is eggs for breakfast). How long should I continue the protein before gradually getting back to real foods for dinner.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

  • What should be the minimum calorie intake before going to the gym?

I went to the gym this morning after breakfast, i had a bowl of oatmeal and coffee (135 calories total) and i burned roughly 300 calories at the gym doing a run/walk combo for 3 miles. I felt a bit dizzy once i ended my workout but i was fine a few minutes after. Is that too low for a workout? or is it ok as long as i eat something afterwards? btw i had a protein shake after which is also my meal replacement for lunch

  • If i'm trying to lose weight, why do i need to create a 500 calorie deficit?

I've read a few sources that says you have to burn more calories than you eat and that you should create a 500 calorie deficit in your daily caloric intake. I'm confused!

Yes its important to stay active (i'm ALWAYS at the gym) but to play devil's advocate i guess, why bother eating a certain amount if you have to burn more than you eat? And if a person like myself eats a low calorie intake anyway, does the 500 still apply? I eat 1200 calories and it would be insane for me to have a 500 deficit.

    Opinions greatly appreciated!

    thanks

  • Is 50 calories too low for breakfast?

So I'm on a 1200 calorie diet and recently I've lowered my breakfast count from 150 down to 50 which includes egg white, and coffee. Do you think that's too low or decent? Btw I eat just before 8 and eat lunch around 12:30 or so

    Thanks!

  • Should I give up being a vegetarian?

I've been vegetarian for about a year now as a way to be healthier. I exercise 3-4 times a week and I am very conscious of what I eat (typically I will eat about 1200 calories a day or so). My only issue is that I am not really losing any weight, so if i'm not losing any weight shouldnt i just go back to eating lean meat?

    What do you think?

    Thanks!

  • Sporting a sporty style, ok or bad?

So today I was told "you always have the cutest little sporty clothes and stuff". Yes, I was pretty flattered because I try to have my own style but I don't want to come across as tomboyish or anything. Most of my jeans fit, not tight fitting, I love to wear graphic tees and converse sneakers. Occasionally I will wear jeans and a cute cami with ballet flats. I wear my hair medium length always with a headband, ribbon, or bow.

Is it a bad thing to have a sporty style? Is it thought of a tomboyish?

    Opinions greatly appreciated, thanks!

  • Is it true that petites should do less cardio?

I've read a few sources that say petites shouldn't do as much cardio but work on strength training especially If there isn't substantial weight loss.

    Is this true?
