No silver is actually stronger than gold, and tarnish less than gold Especially 24k and 20k gold.
Gold in it's purse form is soft (that's why in old movies you bite gold coins to see that you can leave a mark),
Once in a while take a small sauce pan boil water and a few drops of regular dish detergent linke Dawn or Dial etc. and with an old cloth rub the silver and it will shine like new no need for those pastes they sell on TV.
below a link to a few rings I find very pretty Gold and diamonds but at very reasonable price.

Sterling Silver can tarnish due to the humidity or sulfur in the air (common from burning fossil fuels like coal). If you are not in contact with burning coal often (you don't work near a grill or in a restaurant) then your silver should not "easily" tarnish.
You can dramatically slow the tarnish process if you take some daily precautions like storing sterling silver in a dark dry place like a soft zippered pouch. You can also use a non-abrasive cloth like microfiber to rub the sterling silver down daily. This will help to keep the surface free of body oils and dirt.
You can also use a non-toxic polish or polishing cloth every couple of months to keep the exterior shiny. DO NOT use silver dips because they contain ammonia and acidified thiourea, which can cause irreparable damage to the surface of the silver. Blitz is the only company that offers non-toxic silver polish and cloths.
