How long would a TV show last if it was ONLY a direct reading of the bible?

Let's ignore how many people would watch the program or whether there are visuals or not, because that will simply complicate things...

but hypothetically, if there was a TV show that's sole action is to read the bible "verbatim et ab ovo usque ad mala" (word for word from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21 [or whatever time-allotted end for a particular episode]) , I am wondering how long it will show until it is permanently canceled (probably by the FCC)

Well, different versions are going to have slightly different word counts. According to Google, one version has about 775,000 words so let's just use that as an estimate.

Let's say you could read aloud at and average of 2 words per second. Considering some of the longer names in the Bible, this seems like a good average. So that's 387,500 seconds, or just about 108 hours if you had people reading aloud, nonstop.

However, a standard 60 minute TV show contains 16 minutes of commercials, so each episode would only contain 44 minutes of reading the Bible. Throw in opening and closing credits, and you're looking at about 150, 60 minute TV episodes.

If you did a weekly TV show, that's roughly 3 years.

Source(s): Why would the FCC cancel the program? There are religious programs on TV all the time.
