Board game like Axis and Allies?
My fiance and I play a lot of board games and we're looking to buy a few more. He loves Axis and Allies but I simply don't have the attention span for it. Can anyone recommend a game that is similar but less complex and time consuming?

Memoir '44 is a WWII themed board game that takes about an hour to play. It is focused on squad level tactics, so it is simulating a battle, not a whole war. It should meet your desire for a quicker, less complex, but similar game.
Small World and Risk are poor substitutes for Axis and Allies. The PC version of Axis and Allies speeds up gameplay, but it has been out of print since the late 90's, so good luck finding it.

You could also try the PC version of Axis and Allies, which automates enough things that most games only take about 2 hours instead of the typical 6-8 on the physical version.

it's the full version, avaiable for free! very fast to install
You can pick to be either the Allied powers of Britain, Russia, and America, or instead opt to play as the Axis powers of Germany and Japan. Either way, this is a worldwide conflict where you'll have to learn to play strategically across two fronts, no matter who you’re playing as.
