So for a history class I am taking I have to do a huge research project. He was not at all specific because I think he is allowing us to have quite a bit of freedom when it comes to this project. All he said was that it should be either a current event or something that happened in American History. I want it to be something I find interesting and isn't totally brutal to have to research for a long time on. Is there anything interesting that anyone could suggest as a good topic? Thanks!

Many people seem to be against labor unions these days, but the labor unions have really given working people a lot of benefits. Some benefits are reasonable working hours, health care benefits, rights to negotiate wages, safety reforms, vacations, holidays. etc. There is a lot if information available to research. I would write a paper starting with conditions as they were in the late 1800's and show how the unions started because of poor working conditions. You could bring up some of the fights employees and employers had - some of these got very physical and people actually got killed.
