Although 90% of the Black HIlls are in South Dakota, the timbered mountains of the Black Hills National Forest continues 10 to 40 miles beyond the SD border, west into Wyoming.

The Black Hills area in Wyoming include the towns of Hulett, Moorcroft, and Sundance, which are in Crook County and the town of Newcastle, which is in Weston County Wyoming.

Devils Tower National Monument is a distinct branch of the Black Hills known as the Bear Lodges District which is located between Hulett and Sundance, Wyoming. Both Crook and Weston counties are located in the extreme northeastern corner of the state and bordered by South Dakota.

Weston and Cook are the counties in Wyoming that contain portions of the 'black hills'.
