You are talking about two different things. We just had a blue moon in August, and all that means is that there are two full moons in the same month. The second is called a blue moon, but it does not look blue. It's just a name given to the second of two full moons in the same calendar month.

The sun issue you're talking about is an optical illusion caused by the smoke particles in the air. They become very dense and can change the apparent color of the sun because of refraction of light, but the sun itself does not change color. The movement of the jet stream or other atmospheric flow must have caused some of the smoke from the fire in Canada to reach the UK because these atmospheric streams move from west to east due to the earth's rotation. Apparently, some of the smoke particles were in the atmosphere and made the sunlight refract through it. Blue light refracts the most, and apparently that's the wavelength that reached your eyes, but it was because of the particulates in the air, not because the sun turned blue.

Never heard of a blue sun. I have seen a bright orange bushfire sun which is quiet a haunting and threatening sight. The blue moon simply refers to 2 full moons in the same calendar month. That is a tight fit when the lunar cycle being 29 days in length and a month being 30-31 days in length.

I blue moon is an ordinary, full moon that just happens to appear for the second time in a single month. Usually, it's one full moon per month.

I doubt that a forest fire would've made the sun appear blue. If anything, it would've appeared red.
