Question about Assassin's Creed 3 and Liberation?

I'm a very big Assassin's Creed fan and have been eagerly awaiting the release of the upcoming Assassin's Creed 3. I've recently heard about another game that is releasing on the same day, which is called Assassin's Creed Liberation. What is the difference between these two games? Are they set in the same world or are they two completely different games that you have to buy separately. I know in Assassin's Creed 3 you be this one Red Indian guy named Connor Kenway but I'm still a bit confused about this other game called Liberation.

Update:

Are these two games set in the same world, where you can explore three locations, the Frontier, Boston and New York or is Liberation set in another world. Also, are these two games basically the same thing, after the designers finish design the world, added everything they needed to the game until it is finished and then at the end the designed another character and added another questline or are they completely two different games like AC1 and AC2?

liberation is for the vita. You play as Aveline de Grandpré. It is around the same time period as assassins creed 3, but isn't really related to assassins creed 3, but from what I heard you will still run into Connor. It isn't related to desmond's story in AC3 because AC:liberation is created from abstergo.

In liberation, you are a girl. Don't remember her name. It is also during the revolutionary war, but it is at different locations. Look it up on ign if you want more info.
