Is BSc Mathematics of Finance a good degree?
I have to pick a career option very soon and I am leaning mostly towards mechanical engineering but I am also very curious about this particular degree. I am from South Africa and this degree is offered by Wits University and belongs to their school of actuarial science and statistics. If there is anyone who has actually studied this degree and could provide me with any information relating to the job opportunities, the difficulty of the course and the salary of one with such a degree, I would appreciate it. I know that actuaries earn a hell of a lot but unfortunately I just missed the requirements for that degree. I also know that CEOs and people who work in investment banking, financial analysts etc also earn a lot. Thank you to all that answer!
1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)4 years agoHow does one know the direction of static frictional force?
I've provided an example in the form of a photo. This is a question taken from an exam paper. In this example, there are 2 forces acting on the object aside from friction, the applied force and tension. The applied force and tension are balancing each other out and the object is stationary so my question, is how do I know what the direction of static friction is? In an example where there is only one applied force acting on the object and if the object remains stationary, then it is is easy to see that the static frictional force will be equal in magnitude but opposite in direction to the applied force. That is mostly to do with objects on an incline, but for this example with no incline, how do I know the direction of static friction? Thank you in advance to anyone who answers.
3 AnswersPhysics5 years agoWhat is your opinion on gender-specific education?
I am interested to hear your opinion on girls-only or boys-only schools. My opinion on the matter is that gender-specific education is detrimental to the emotional development of children and adolescents. This world will always have both males and females so I for one do not see the point of gender segregation and I believe that students in gender-specific schools would not develop crucial social skills that would serve them throughout their lives. I believe that through segregation of the genders, individuals would not learn how to interact with the opposite sex which I think is very important to the development of confidence, especially later in life. I believe that it is a completely natural thing for an individual to be attracted to the opposite sex and that people shouldn't shy away from talking about it. Physical attraction towards the opposite sex is something that is always going to exist, and I believe that trying to pretend like it's not there, is just going to confuse teenagers even more than they would normally be at an adolescent age. I'm an open-minded individual so if you disagree with me that is perfectly fine (obviously) but I'm just mentioning this so that you are not afraid to express your opinion as honestly as you might want. I am curious to see how many of you agree with me, and if you disagree with me please explain why. The purpose of me posting this question is understand the perspective of different individuals with different viewpoints. Thank you.
3 AnswersGender Studies5 years agoHow were 2000 people turned into walkers in Fear The Walking Dead?
Remember back in episode 5 of Fear The Walking Dead, Adam told Daniel the story about how there were 2000 people in the nearby sports arena and that he locked all of them inside there? I'm just wondering how it is that such a large number of people turned into walkers because don't you have to die first and then come back as one? In episode 6 we see that Daniel led this massive horde of walkers to the military checkpoint where they were trying to provide medical assistance to certain individuals, there was easily around a thousand walkers there, is it possible to "turn" into one of them even when you are still alive without dying first? If the answer to this question is no, then would that mean that somehow all 2000 of those civilians died and came back as walkers?
I appreciate any answers and thank you in advance!
3 AnswersDrama5 years agoIf Sin(A)=Sin(B), then does that mean that A=B?
This is a rule that I came across in a textbook, this got me thinking, that Sin(180)=Sin(360) so does that mean that 180=360? Obviously not, but is this a contradiction of that rule or am I missing something? Thanks in advance guys.
3 AnswersMathematics6 years agoHow do you change the album views in Windows Media Player?
In Windows Media Player, before it used to display the albums as a grid not in any sorted way, and now I changed it somehow, I don't know how, but now it displays albums in alphabetical order as in all the albums starting with A will be under A. Does anyone know how to change it back to an unsorted view where all the albums are displayed not in any specific criteria?
1 AnswerSoftware8 years agoCan someone please explain the String Theory?
I am not a physicist, still in high school and I am very interested in physics. Can someone please explain this theory without getting extremely technical, I searched around the web, on Wiki it was a little bit hard to understand. I know nothing about the String Theory except that it is something about electrons being oscillating lines and what not, so can you please start from scratch. Thank you in advance to all who answers.
3 AnswersPhysics8 years agoCan't change Bitdefender Total Security 2013 settings?
When I try to change certain settings in this program, like autoscan, it doesn't work, all that happens is that it stays on for a few seconds and then just goes back off. When I try to use autopilot instead of user mode, it doesn't work either, it just selects user mode again. The settings seem to be frozen. Does anyone know why this is happening, and if there is any solution to this. I am running an operating system known as Windows 8 professional. Any help will be appreciated.
2 AnswersSecurity9 years agoCanon Powershot S100 problems?
I got a Canon Powershot S100 camera, and it came with a Lexar Multi-Use 8GB SDHC memory card. I used the memory card fine for about eight months and then suddenly one day, the card stopped working. When I put the camera on, it gave a memory locked and a memory card error message. When I look at the images on the camera, I see that they are all incompatible JPEGS which are represented by question mark thumbnails. I never took the card out or anything, it was working fine, then for no reason while the card was in the camera this just happened, I couldn't take any pictures after this. Also, it gives me the message of unidentified image with the same yellow question mark thumbnail. Please help, if you have any idea what is going on, please tell me.
5 AnswersCameras9 years agoAssassin's Creed Brotherhood ending?
I know it's a little late for this now, but I still don't fully understand the ending of Brotherhood. Why did Desmond kill Lucy, it happened when he touched the apple but nothing of the sort happened when Ezio or Altair held it. Why did Juno tell Desmond that he should have left when he had the chance, why didn't she want him to hold the apple? And also, what did she mean when she said at the end "Awaken the sixth" just after Lucy died. Also, what is the purpose of the apple, what did the first civilisation make it for, like now we humans have invented a car for the purpose of moving around easier and quicker, but what purpose does the apple serve, what does it do and why was it created? And also what does it mean when Juno said "You with five senses, us with six" does she mean eagle vision? And if she does, does that mean that Desmond is part first civilisation? If it does, how come Desmond wasn't able to use his eagle vision power before he lived through the memories of Altair. There is also one part about AC2, the dream Desmond had. In the dream he was Altair but he wasn't in the animus, why did this happen? In the dream he also chased that person, Maria, when they got to the top of the tower, why did he say at the end "That must mean...?" when he realized he wasn't following Altair and why wasn't he following Altair? Any answers would be appreciated.
4 AnswersVideo & Online Games9 years agoQuestion about Assassin's Creed 3 and Liberation?
I'm a very big Assassin's Creed fan and have been eagerly awaiting the release of the upcoming Assassin's Creed 3. I've recently heard about another game that is releasing on the same day, which is called Assassin's Creed Liberation. What is the difference between these two games? Are they set in the same world or are they two completely different games that you have to buy separately. I know in Assassin's Creed 3 you be this one Red Indian guy named Connor Kenway but I'm still a bit confused about this other game called Liberation.

7 AnswersYahoo Answers9 years agoHow do you fire the flash manually on a Canon Powershot S100?
I just got this camera, the Canon Powershot S100. If there is anyone who knows about this camera, is there anyway to fire the flash manually? The flash is placed in the top right corner of the camera and whenever it is dark, the camera automatically raises the flash itself. Is there a way to manually raise the flash even when it is not dark? I don't think that anyone would design a camera where you couldn't control the flash how you want. Any help would be appreciated.
2 AnswersCameras9 years agoHow do you solve quadratic equations?
I know nothing about quadratic equations, it is not for homework, I'm actually in grade eight, I think we learn this in grade ten but I want to learn a little bit extra in mathematics. If anyone can explain what a quadratic equation is and how to solve it and anything of note, that would be appreciated, but please explain from the very, very scratch. Thanks.

4 AnswersSoftware9 years agoHow do you vote for an answer on Answers?
I know that you can rate answers if you aren't the asker, but on some questions I've seen, they had a bar where they said how many people voted this as good or something like that. How do you do that?
