How were 2000 people turned into walkers in Fear The Walking Dead?
Remember back in episode 5 of Fear The Walking Dead, Adam told Daniel the story about how there were 2000 people in the nearby sports arena and that he locked all of them inside there? I'm just wondering how it is that such a large number of people turned into walkers because don't you have to die first and then come back as one? In episode 6 we see that Daniel led this massive horde of walkers to the military checkpoint where they were trying to provide medical assistance to certain individuals, there was easily around a thousand walkers there, is it possible to "turn" into one of them even when you are still alive without dying first? If the answer to this question is no, then would that mean that somehow all 2000 of those civilians died and came back as walkers?
I appreciate any answers and thank you in advance!

The civilians and infected alike were all locked because there was so much sheer capacity that the California Army National Guard could not handle. One national guardsman simply realized that one person was bitten when they tried to get out, they decided that it was best locking them up than to help them who were unfornately mingled with the infected population. Eventually, the civilians were bitten too and became infected as well.

They didn't lock infected in there. They locked humans. Basically what happened, if I remember correctly, they had the people in there to keep them safe. It was a place they could watch who entered and excited. But someone must have hidden a bite and turned inside the stadium. When the military realized this, instead of trying to help the civilians who had NOT been bitten, they simply shut the doors and locked them. So there were still a lot of non-infected humans locked inside the stadium. But since they were left inside with infected, they eventually all turned.
