Swaddling baby issues?
When is it ok to stop swaddling your baby? Mine is nearly 8 weeks old and he usually wriggles until his arms are free, then proceeds to whack himself in the head and if his dummy is in, whacks it out. Unless he is mega sleepy at the time of swaddling, he protests being swaddled. Also what age do they start rolling over as I know this presents SIDS risks?

my daughter also had roaming arms so the way the midwife taught me to swaddle as to wrap baby semi tight and tuck excess into the sides of the crib - she tried to loosen up a few timees then got used to the fact she couldnt. i swaddled her till she managed to turn herself on her side which was about 4 months. i found swaddling helped her sleep 2 hours longer than normal and she moved less and therefore woke herself up less.
some babies start rolling over earlier so as soon as this happens swaddling should be stopped, then you can opt for a regular blanket or a gro bag sleeping bag type of thing to ensure baby doesnt get tangled up in it.
good luck

You can stop whenever you feel the time is right. But I would say if he is waking himself up, he still needs the swaddle. Have you tried using a scarf to tie the swaddle in place? Just make sure the ends are tucked away. No loose fabric. I found getting a swaddle right in my daughter was a two person job.
Babies start rolling from tummy to back around four months, and from back to tummy around 5-6 months, but it can vary based on the child. My daughter rolled both ways at three months, but she has always been strong.
Congrats on your little guy and good luck!

Swaddling when baby is first born is ok because it is supposed to make baby feel more secure after being in the womb.Personally,I think baby should now be allowed to have more freedom of movement.
